Maya's POV

I heard Emma's footsteps approaching our room through the hallway. She was quite and slow, she wasn't crying or making any sudden movements.

I just happened to be a light sleeper. I learnt to wake up earlier than Lane would open my door. I only needed one lesson with the water bucket to learn, that even in my sleep I wasn't safe.

She peeked her head into the room trying to decide on her next move.

"It's okay Princess. Come here." I told her quietly not wanting to scare her with my voice in the dark room. She walked towards me a little bit quicker than before. "What happened?" her face was dry so she didn't cry.

She slept through the nights without nightmares since she had told about the two main dreams of hers. Talking about our deepest insecurity can be therapeutic.

"I woke up and I couldn't sleep back" she admitted "I wanted to snuggle" she held up her arms beside the bed to be lifted up into my lap. She was still struggling with climbing into our enormous bed.

"You can always get snuggles" I told her as I started to stroke her hair. She rested her head on my chest listening to my heartbeat as I rocked her. She buried her whole body into my touch.

"Thank you Mommy." she paused for a moment "I love you so much" she said with a sleepy tone.

After a few moments her breath was steady and slow again on my skin. I admired her features in the dark room. She was my little girl and I couldn't get enough of her. I had so much love for the little creature in my arms. She thought I was the one who saved her but to be honest she was the savior of me.

She and Carina taught me how to love without fear and with my whole heart. She taught me what motherhood feels like, how simple words can hold so much love and power.

I laid down with her on my chest stroking her brown locks. It didn't take me long to fall back asleep with a smile on my face.

"Maya, wake up, Bella" I heard Carina's voice but my body wasn't ready to react just yet.

I felt her warm lips on my face as she tried to wake me up gently. She eventually cover my whole face with her loving kisses until she planted a soft one on my lips. My body reaction so quickly and yet so naturally. I kissed her back sweetly.

"Ahha I knew this will work"

"How could I not kiss you back even if I'm still half asleep if you're this sweet, Baby" I opened up my eyes and met with her beautiful chocolate brown eyes. "Good morning Beautiful" I said getting lost in her mesmerising features

"Morning Bella" she kissed me again but this time with more passion "How did our little girl ended up on top of you" she said smiling

"She woke up in the middle of the night in need of snuggles to fall back asleep" I played with her locks smiling "She was okay, no tears, no panic attacks, she just needed us so she came in" I explained to Carina happily

"I have to be in work in about an hour" she told me sadly she kissed Emma's head.

Her mood dropped.

On most mornings she was standing in the doorway of Emma's room and watched her while she was sleeping. She didn't want to wake her up by coming into her room so she just stood there with a smile on her face. After a few minutes she let out a louder sigh and went to work. She tried not to show how much she wanted to stay with us each morning but I could see the it in her longing eyes when she had to say goodbye to us.

"That's okay. We can come with you and she can play in the daycare as we talked about. Than I can take her to the park and we'll pick you up after your shift. Is it okay with you?" I asked her knowing how much it would mean to her
