(None of the pictures are mine. I will let you know if I ever use my art!)

I waited for a while outside of the military barracks.

I had arrived outside in the five minutes that were established. Before I got here I had been in my room's office section, organizing the pile of paperwork I had. Yet, no one has come out of the barracks in the time frame that was given.

Guess I am going in then.

My legs carried me inside to the area reserved for male cadets. Considering that Isabel was the only female of the group, they would likely be located in the male branch of the building first.

When you first enter the barracks, there is a small common room where both genders could converse before breakfast or between training sessions. To the left side of the room is an entry way that connects to a hallway, leading to the men's sleeping quarters. It is identical on the right for women.

I used to be here with my sister at one point for training, then she left claiming it was too much for her to handle.

Nothing was held against her with her perfect blond hair and green eyes she got from mother. Father always loved Freya better than me, can't blame him for it though.

She is everything I am not. Beautiful, elegant, proper, and above all trusting.

I have simple tawny brown hair and a green eye with a blue partner. I was bad luck according to my father.

At the age of five he made me do things that my body couldn't handle. Run almost all day, train my mind to be sharp, and learn how to take a beating.

He didn't train me in hand-to-hand combat until I was older. So my skills in it were just a little above average. I have training from my cadet days to thank for that improvement.

It doesn't bother me that I was around average with close combat. I was full of knowledge in other areas. Instead of using power, I could spot openings and weaknesses to outsmart an opponent.

Passing the large, male shower room I was met with another moment that I remembered from my rookie days.

My sister and I had showered with other women from our unit. It isn't a significant memory, but we had made some friends in those shower stalls.

The male showers aren't much different than the female ones. You have to learn to accept your vulnerabilities in the showers. Everyone can see you, your privacy isn't sacred until you are of higher status.

It was an easy way to get over your insecurities and accept that no one really cares. I learned quick that it didn't matter here.

We all have one mission, survive.

Nothing else should matter. That doesn't stop people from leaping into relationships or blind trust.

So of course, your looks don't matter.

Flagon's voice echoing from the entrance of the men's sleeping quarters let's me know I am really close.

"This bunk's for you two." He said blandly. I really should talk to Akita about raining him in.

There was a small pause as I entered the room and took a position next to the bunk Levi was currently inspecting.

I ignored Flagon's glare and watched as Levi swept his hand under the boards of the top bunk.

Dirt and who knows what else fluttered down the moment Levi touched the wood. His eyes clouded over in absolute disgust and horror. He was absolutely appalled by the state of this place.
