Why is it that the moon is still so beautiful with her scars but I cannot be the same?

I watch the glowing moon hung high in the sky from afar, where I often seek my haven. It is so peaceful, and so beautiful up here.

She's smiling at me, the moon, I mean. The crescent is shaped just like a smile, so perfectly curved and radiant in a soft, misty light. I trace the scars running like veins across my left arm, white and pale pink streaks criss-crossing over each other in a messy pattern on pale skin.

I wonder if the moon ever feels as I do about my scars, insecure and fragile. I don't think she does; each night she proudly shines so mesmerically, despite the glittering jewels that are stars that share the deep night sky with her. She doesn't seem to think they are taking over her light, or stealing away the attention, because they're not. Every time I look into the night, I see her there, beaming in her gown of floating, thin clouds. And even on an evening when the sky is clear, she displays those scars as if they are the best of her.

And I can't do that. I don't have the courage to. If only I am like the moon.

It's class now. I'm sitting in the art studio, early as always, waiting for the rest of the class to turn up. They do, slowly but surely.

The teacher, an energetic lady with greying hair, claps her hands together. "Well, you know what you have to do. Have fun and be creative, dears," she coos. "You know what, I'll bring in some sample artworks, just in case. I'll be right back!"

Soon after, I have to change the water so I take my jar to the sink.

To my dismay, Kim Soomin is already there, washing her palette with an expression akin to disgust. But then she sees Sehun and her face lights up.

"Sehunnie! Can you roll my sleeves up for me please?" she asks, pouting for extra persuasion. He nods and smiles shyly, doing as she asks.

I blanch and slink off towards another sink but she has already spotted me. "Look at what the cat dragged in. ___," she sneers.

I stare at her silently. What's her problem?

"Wow. Now she's mute. Add that to your list of talents, huh? She laughs meanly. "Thank you, Sehun. I-"

I don't stay to hear what else she has to say. I flee instead.

"She's so ugly. And she rolls up her sleeves as if she doesn't have whatever she's got on her arms," Soomin exclaims loudly as she rolls her eyes. She's doing it on purpose, so I can hear her from across the room.

But Sehun cuts in. "She's not ugly."

Soomin glares at him before faltering when she sees who it is. "How could you, Hunnie? Just look at those disgusting scars."

"She's not. Even if she had more scars, she'd be prettier than you."

There's a round of 'oohs' and the room fills with furious muttering and whispering.

"How could he stand up for? Why would he?"

Yes, why would he?

"Don't call me Hunnie. She's beautiful, scars or not." He pauses before ploughing on. "They're a part of her. They make her her."

"Which is exactly no one wants to go near her."

"I do." Sehun approaches me.

"Seriously, Sehunnie-"

"It's Sehun."

"Okay, Sehun." Soomin sneers, as if she hasn't been fawning over him for longer than I can remember. Have you ever seen anything that's pretty with scars? Think about it. Nothing."

"No, there is something. The moon."

Soomin huffs. "The moon's not a person. My point is, you can't love an ugly thing."

"You're shallow. Ugliness isn't always about what's on the surface. ___, I like you." He gives me a cute moon-shaped eyesmile.

I bite my lip. "But can you love an imperfect person?"

"Yes, I can."

"But I'm not pretty."

Sehun advances another few steps and takes my hands in his. "Yes you are. You're like the moon. Imperfect, but radiant and beautiful. Imperfection is a kind of perfection."

I smile, feeling warmth bloom in my chest. "Okay."

"So will you go out with me, ___?"

"I'd love to."

Soomin makes an indignant noise while the rest of the class coos. "She's still a scarred, stupid, ugly girl."

Sehun grins at her and links his arm with mine. "Better than a rude girl with a limited vocabulary. Plus, she's smarter and prettier than you anyway."

"Sehunnie-"

"See? Unlike you, she actually knows my name. It's Sehun. ___'s Sehun."

The End. I'll have plenty of time to update lots soon. Stay tuned! Thanks everyone for the patience and support and for reading!
