You may be at my side,
But you are not mine.No matter how much you say,
That I am yours,
I'm not.
Even worse,
You were never mine,
You never will be.This will play out,
To be a painful lie in the end,
At least it didn't sting in the moment.
I'll grow a spine,
Or you'll grow away from me,
I prefer the latter to the former,
But one of those is in the future.I said those three stupid words,
But I didn't mean a whisper of them.
I put my lips to your face,
But those seconds of contact,
They didn't mean a thing.
I held your hands as we walked,
I wanted to let go,
Just as quickly as I held on.I didn't mean a word I said to you,
I just couldn't hurt you,
While you were so distraught.Who knows?
Maybe you'll read this,
And see how toxic I can be,
And you'll make me suffer by staying,
Or you'll free me by leaving,
It depends how courteous you can be.
