We're tricked into this from the start,
The promise of love,
The oath of safety,
It's all sugarcoating what life is.
Life is full of pain,
Life has no remorse for what it does,
And how it takes control,
Of your every move.

We are brought here,
We have it sworn that we'll be happy,
Yet society isn't prepared,
To let the people have their peace.
Life grins at the ways that we change,
The way societal standards rise,
And how no one but the rich and famous,
Full of plastic and their lies,
Can fulfil the roles of "perfect" people,
With the most "desirable" appearances.

Yet, all of the above,
It's covered in a sweetener.
The magic of the celebrity,
Or the idol,
And the intensity of massive groups of fans.
It distracts us from the pain it brings us all.
Whether the pain is subconscious,
Or you're all too aware of the hurt,
You're going to follow on anyway,
Because you crave the sweetness,
Though the bitter truth is just underneath,
That sugary, lying shell.

We're making a game of our lives,
Just to taste the sweetness at the end.
However, the bitter air,
Will only sour the taste,
Of the sugar coated pill,
That tricks us into this world,
And keeps us here.
