sith a long sigh, you say farewell to the customer as they walked away. you quickly put on a fake smile as you lifted your arm to wave over the next customer.

"next please!" you said loudly, seeing a tall and buff middle-aged man make his way to you. he had tattoos all down his arms and on his neck. he looked like he lived at a gym and his ears were lined with piercings. he had a scowl on his face and you instantly knew you weren't going to be happy after this encounter.

you've been working at target for 9 months now and you were pretty excited when you first started but all you want to do now is resign but you knew you couldn't. the pay wasn't that bad but the customers were always a handful. you worked twice a week but it was still enough to drive someone crazy.

"i bought these earrings that i don't like so i want my money back." he said with so much attitude in his voice. you raised your brow as he slammed the earrings on the counter. it was extremely gross and looked dirty and very used. you almost gagged but was able to push it down.

"i'm sorry but it's against our policy to accept any piercings. health and safety reasons." you said kindly but he wasn't having it. he let out a weird sounding growl.

"listen up. these earrings look like shit and it feels uncomfortable. i want a refund right now!" he yelled making everyone's eyes turn to you. you blushed a deep red at the unwanted attention. from your peripheral vision, you could see two tall guys standing in line and watching the encounter.

"look sir. i don't mean to disrespect you but i'm gonna have to ask you to keep your voice down." you said politely with an uncomfortable smile on your face but clearly he wanted to make your life a living hell.

"whi do you think you are? yku piece of shit! don't fucking tell me what to do. you're the one with the uniform on, not me." as he yelled at you, you could feel the tears pricking at your eyes. not because you felt sad at his words but you were never good with people yelling at you. it didn't scare you but was enough to make you overwhelmed. "my god, this whole store is shit! i just want a fucking refund! fuck you, you stupid slut!"

with that, he picked up the earrings and threw them at you with full force before leaving the store. everyone sent you worried looks, their eyes scanning your body to see if you were hurt. you held your cheek as you felt the stinging pain of the earrings. with a shaky breath, you picked them up and threw them in the bin.

"next please!" you said, not as loud as usual. the two teenage boys quickly came over to you with sympathetic faces. they were clearly twins and towered over you with their tall and muscular frames.

"hey, are you okay?" the one with the dangly earring asked. you shakily smiled at him but he saw right through it.

"y-yeah..." you stuttered and began scanning their items. they shared a look before turning back to you.

"listen, if it makes you feel better, we think that guy was totally out of line. no one should treat another human like that, especially if they haven't done anything wrong. i'm sorry about what he did and said." the other brother said making you genuinely smile.

"aw, you're so sweet." you said and watched as his face turned a deep red. "i-i'm y/n, by the way."

"i'm grayson and this is my twin brother, ethan. sorry we didn't step in or do anything to stop that douche." grayson said apologetically making you wave him off.

"don't worry about him. he'll get what he deserves. thanks for being so nice though. your total is $50.95." you said and let ethan swipe his credit card.

"what time does your shift finish?" ethan asked as he typed his pin number. you looked down at your watch, sighing in relief when it was 3:36. your shift finished at 3:30.

"right now." you said happily and put their receipt in their plastic bag and handed it to them. you signed out of the register and said goodbye to them. you walked into the staffroom to sign yourself out. grabbing your purse out of your locker, you pulled your hair out of it's tight ponytail and began walking to the exit. as soon as you exited the store, ethan and grayson were standing there and approached you. "what are you guys still doing here?"

"we wanted to know if you wanted to go out to lunch with us. you don't have to if you don't want to. we just felt bad about what happened and wanted to make up for not helping out." grayson said with a sheepish smile that was also plastered on ethan face. you mentally awed at their sweetness.

"you guys are honestly too kind but are you sure? i don't want you guys to feel like you have to make up for anything." you said seriously, fidgeting with your hands. they grinned at you simultaneously.

"of course not. we want to make it up to you. so what do you say?" ethan asked hopefully. you thought about it for a minute. the twins were hoping that you'd agree:

"so... where are we going?" you said making them both cheer loudly, high-fiving each other and pulling you into a side hug. you giggled and began walking in between them. grayson offered to take your bag for you which you initially declined but he insisted.

that day was loads of fun and they made it worth your while. it was amazing how they made such a bad situation into something that remained to be one of the best in your life.
