it's been 5 months since you and ethan broke up. you'd never admit it out loud but you missed him. a lot. despite having a boyfriend now, it wasn't serious to you. it was something to get your mind off ethan and the relationship you wished you still had. you were ashamed of yourself for using your current boyfriend, nathan, like that but you couldn't bring yourself to stop. that would mean being alone.

you were sitting at a table in starbucks while nathan ordered your drinks. looking down at your phone, you felt nathan's presence in the seat across from you.

"thanks babe." you said with a fake smile, ready to get your drink from him. your smile dropped instantly when you saw that it was in fact ethan. his bright face dampened and his shoulders slumped slightly. it was as if life punched him in the face as soon as those words left your mouth.

"babe? who-" ethan was cut off by nathan who was holding both of your drinks.

"hi?" nathan said awkwardly, staring ethan down. ethan's eyes never left yours as he realised what kind of situation he was in.

"you must be y/n's boyfriend..." ethan said sadly as he stood up. ethan clenched his jaw and looked down. nathan nodded. "i'll just be going."

"ethan!" you called out as he hurriedly turned and walked out of the store. he furiously wiped his eyes as he walked past the window which showed that he was crying. you desperately wanted to run after him but you couldn't.

"who was that?" nathan asked as you stared sadly at ethan as he walked away. You shook your head and took a sip of your drink. "y/n. who was that?"

"what does it matter?" you snapped, tears brimming your eyes as you thought back to ethan's reaction when you called him babe while thinking he was nathan. you don't love nathan. you never could love him. what if ethan still loves you? what if he wants you back?

"the way you looked at that guy... you've never looked at me like that." nathan said quietly while sending a sad smile your way. your eyes widened.

"i-i-"

"you don't need to explain yourself. he's an ex, right?" nathan asked making you nod. "i can tell you still love him."

"nathan..." you muttered, feeling guilty that he had to find out this way.

"it's okay. go get him. he clearly loves you, y/n. besides, i don't wanna be in a one-sided relationship." nathan spoke softly, not showing any sign of hatred towards you. your heart started beating faster as you realised what he meant. "go."

you smiled thankfully at him and gave him a kiss on his cheek.

"thank you so much." you said gratefully. he nodded and shooed you away. holding your bag close to your chest, you ran in the same direction that you saw ethan go. your adrenaline was high as you were desperately looking left, right and centre for ethan.

after a few minutes of running, you slowed down next to park and caught your breath. you heard a sniffle and your head snapped to the trees where you could tell that someone was standing behind it. you stepped closer and saw that it was ethan. he looked up at you with teary eyes.

"y/n? how did you find me?" he hiccuped making your heart clench. the thought of you putting him in this state hurt you. you smiled and stepped closer to him, wrapping your arms around his neck.

"shut up." you whispered and pressed your lips onto his. he was frozen. he didn't know why you were kissing him but he certainly wasn't complaining. he placed his hands on your waist and began to kiss you back. he smiled into the kiss before pulling away and resting his forehead against yours.

"does this mean you're mine again?" ethan whispered making you nod.

"when did i stop?"
