the water felt cool against your body as you floated in the pool. ethan was in the water with you. it was calm and relaxing- something you've been needing for a while. you've been so caught up and stressed out with school that you had barely anytime for yourself. ethan was also working himself overtime with youtube that he wasn't able to take care of himself.

"we should do this more often." you muttered and rested the back of your head on ethan's shoulder while his arms were wrapped around your body. he made a hum of approval.

after a few seconds of that position, you felt him start to fidget. his body felt tense against yours. you lifted your head off his shoulder to give him a strange look. you returned your head to his shoulder and rested your arms gently on his. his leg started moving around a bit more and his grip on you tightened. you sighed and pulled away from him, leaning your arms on the ledge of the pool.

"if you need to go pee then go." you laughed and nodded towards the house. he smiled gratefully and started splashing towards the ledge. he ran into the house so it was just you in the pool. you dried your hands with a towel and went on your phone as you waited for him. your back was to the house and you were on the opposite side of the pool. you heard footsteps and light splashing that signalled someone was in the pool which you assumed was ethan.

you set down your phone as ethan came closer to you and tapped your shoulder gently.

"hey y/n-" you cut him off by pressing your lips against his. he was frozen and didn't move before quickly shoving you off him and wiping his mouth with his hand. "why would you do that!"

"ethan, what are you talking a-about..." you slowly stopped talking as you stared at grayson. you mentally slapped yourself a million times when you realised you kissed your boyfriend's brother. your eyes widened and you backed away hurriedly, pressing your back against the pool wall. "i-i thought you were..."

"i know." he said bluntly and got out of the pool, a disappointed look on his face. he knew that it was a simple mistake but knowing that he kissed his twin brother's girlfriend didn't feel right. he grabbed his stuff and walked into the house, only to bump into ethan who was standing in the doorway.

"good on you. kissing my girlfriend and all." ethan said sarcastically, a glare set on his features. grayson sighed and sent you a look. By now, you were out of the water and standing next to the two boys with a towel wrapped around your body.

"look. she came onto me-" grayson started as he raised his hands in surrender. you sent him a disbelieving look and shoved him back harshly.

"i thought you were ethan!" you yelled and ran your fingers through your wet hair. ethan stared sadly between you and grayson as you both yelled at each other.

"yeah well maybe you shouldn't close your eyes when you go to kiss someone!" gray yelled back as he pointed to the pool. you rolled your eyes and leaned on one hip, your arms crossed over your chest.

"when the fuck did you even get here! i thought it was just ethan and i in the house!" you exclaimed and raised your brow as you waited for his response. ethan was growing more and more frustrated and he gripped his hair tightly. he didn't want to listen to his girlfriend and twin argue.

"he invited me to come over!" gray exclaimed as he crossed his arms over his chest making his muscles bulge out. this made him look even more bigger and scarier.

"yeah well if i knew you were coming over then i wouldn't have had my eyes closed!"

"yeah well-"

"both of you shut the fuck up!" ethan screamed making you and grayson shut up real quick. you felt so small between the two giants and ethan yelling made you feel even smaller. ethan was so sick and tired of both of you arguing. he was so pissed at you and grayson for the pool incident but he knew that for you if was a mistake. you didn't know anyone else was in the house but it wasn't something he could just shake off. "just... stop."

"e-" you said softly but he shook his head. you frowned and stepped back slightly.

"i understand it was a mistake on both of your parts but that doesn't mean i have to forgive you guys right away. i'm mad but i won't be mad forever." ethan said with a calm voice. your eyes started welling up with tears, knowing that this was all your fault.

"Are you... b-breaking-" you stuttered but ethan stopped you quickly. no matter the situation, ethan still loved you and could never imagine himself breaking up with you.

"no. no, no of course not. but maybe a little space? just... until i can look at you and not see my brother all over you." he said quietly which hit you hard. you felt a pang of sadness as you watched him walk away from you with his head hung low. your lip started quivering when gray shoved past you roughly. you heard the front door slam and car engines start. they drove away in seperate cars.

the silence was killing you as you stood in the backyard alone.

"fuck!" you yelled as you threw your phone on the cement. tears were streaming down your face and you were a sobbing mess within seconds. you cried and sat on the floor, bringing your knees under your chin. wiping your eyes, you stared in front of you. your eyes were set on the pool which quite literally ruined your relationship while there was only one thing on your mind-

if only you opened your eyes.
