Jill and Lucas walked to the sawmill with cookies in hand and we're greeted by a sawdust covered Matt. "Cookies for me?" He kissed Jill on the cheek.

"Where's Bear?" I have some news for him. Jill peeked in the office looking for her brother-in-law to tell him that  she was one hundred percent positive that Red liked him.

Lucas found Bear behind the mill stacking wood and eagerly shared with him his bakery store visit. "Did you see Red today?"

Lucas gave an enthusiastic reply of yes. "Is she still as pretty as ever?"

Lucas thought for a moment. "Yep. And she likes my bear." Lucas asked Bear to bend down to tell him a secret. He whispered in Bear's ear.  "She also likes you, Uncle Bear. She said so. Ask Mom." Lucas drug Bear by the hand to where Jill stood and begged her to tell Bear what Red had said. Jill only confirmed what Bear had suspected. Red did like him but something or someone was stopping her from taking the next step.

The next morning Bear set out to the bakery to ask Red out again for the 28th time. He waited patiently in the back of the crowd as it thinned out after the the morning rush. When the crowd parted, she saw him leaning quietly against the wall and smiling like it was the first time he ever saw her.

"The usual?" She asked reaching for the chocolate cupcakes.

"No, I thought I would change things up today. How about the lemon ones?"

"Wow! You really are changing direction."

"Change is good." Bear reached for the box. Red held onto it lingering for a moment waiting for him to ask her for a date. But he didn't. Bear thanked her for the cupcakes and turned to leave.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" Bear shook his head no. "I have everything I came in for." He walked out of the shop, smiling to himself and leaving a wave of disappointment in his wake. For the first time in quite a long time, Red felt let down. Bear hadn't asked her out today. He had consistently done so for the past four months but today something was different about him  and for the next two weeks, he didn't return to the bakery.

Everytime the bell jingled over the door, Red was a little disappointed. Bear hadn't set foot in her shop in over two weeks and she was starting to regret turning him down so many times. She had personal reasons for her rejections. She had a lot of baggage and she surely didn't want to burden someone with it. She also wasn't quite sure if she could go back into a relationship with anyone after what she has done to herself. Each day, she healed a little more and each day, she reminded herself that she would be worthy of a healthy relationship one day. Focusing her attention on her bakery business had given Red a new lease on life as did her move out of her dark past in Seattle to the freshness of Alaska.

"Lucy, can you handle the shop for a while?"

"Sure. What's up?"

Red packaged up a half dozen chocolate cupcakes. "I've got to see a man about some cupcakes."

Lucy began to speak but Red cut her off

Lucy began to speak but Red cut her off. "Don't say it. I already know what you're going to say."

Lucy laughed as Red headed for the door. "Good luck with that Bear hunt."

Red sighed. "I think I'm going to need it."
