A/n This was requested by LauraGarfitt. You made me break my heart writing this.

"Have you see Arthur?"

My heart was frantic and fluttering with excitement as I raced across the castle, asking every person whom I came across wether they knew where my husband was located. Despite having searched for him for quite some time, the news threatening to burst from my chest made the chase for him all the more enjoyable.

Gwen, holding a gorgeous looking bouquet of flowers, shook her head at me a small smile playing on her lips as she watched me rush around from person to person. I turned to her, grinning widely as I glided over to where she was arranging her flowers in a vase.

"Have you seen my husband?" I questioned as Gwen smiled even wider at me. She nodded her head and I sighed in delight. "You Gwen are the only useful person in this castle."

"I would not go that far." She denied my compliment but the blush creeping onto the apples of her cheeks clued me to know that she secretly liked my comment. "But I last saw Arthur with some rope heading into your shared chambers."

"What on earth was he doing with rope?" Confusion replaced the excitement in my tone but Gwen simply shook her shoulders allowing the thought to just roll of her.

"Who knows."

Concerned and clear confused I headed up the stairs into the hall which lead into our room. The lack of guards on our door caused my eyebrows to furrow deeply and my concern to only increase.

I slowly opened the door to our chambers to find Arthur sitting at his desk, tears freely streaming down his face and his fingers moving repeatedly over a piece of rope slowly forming a noose.

"Arthur?" I stepped into the full light of the room as Arthur raised his head. He looked an absolute mess. His face was soaking with tears as they continually dripped off of his cheekbones which allowed his spiked hair to stick to his cheeks. "Sweetie what are you doing?"

"Y/n!" He stood almost immediatly, his hands reaching out to knock the rope back out of sight but it was too late my eyes had already spotted the dammed object. "I thought you were with Gauis."

"I was," I took a couple of steps into the room, slowly coming closer of Arthur. The closer I got to him the more obvious his tears grew. As they fell from his eyes they glistened as they left a soft wet trail down his cheeks. "Arthur what is wrong?"

"Nothing." His answer was abrupt but yet his voice still broke. I stepped closer to him, intending to wrap my arms around him and shield him from his pain but he took an obvious step away from me. His lips were pursed as they trembled as he desperately tried to stop his tears from falling.

"Arthur,"

I took a small step forwards for Arthur to only take a step back nearing him closer to the window. My own tears were welling up as I continued to watch the love of my life fall apart to pieces. As each tear fell him his eyes I felt my heart break over and over again.

"Sweetie,"

I was getting alarmingly aware that Arthur was edging closer to the window. I spoke softly to him, like I was speaking to a small child, as I held my hands out to him.

"Come away from the window."

Fear was pounding from my voice as it radiated from my chest. I was terrified for him, for the pain in his voice, I could hear it gnawing away at him.

"You do not understand." His cheeks were pinched with a rosy tone as he continued to cry his feet slowly ever so slowly moving towards the window. "I need to protect you!"

"Then help me to understand." I restored to pleading. I needed to help him, it was a desperate yearning that I could not forget. "Please Arthur."

He went to take a step towards me, and my chest filled with hope as I smiled through my tears.

"That is it."

Sharply Arthur raised his head, his eyes piercing through me and pain radiating from them. He started to shake his head violently, mumbling over and over again under his breath. The fear of losing him was growing greater, but an idea stuck me and I desperately hoped it would get him away from the window.

"Arthur, come away from the window and I will tell you what Gauis had told me." I bargained, my own tears blinding my vision. I extended my hands towards him. Arthurs eyes flickered towards them before he shook his head sharply.

"NO!" He shouted taking a giant step back so now hi knees were pressed against the ledge of an open window. "I have made a horrible mistake and I need to fix it."

"Arthur, you are the king, whatever you have done we will deal with it together." I was sobbing now along with him, I was beyond desperate.

"Together?" Arthur eyes flickered from the window to me and I nodded smiling softly through my tears.

"Like we have always done." Arthur seemed to generally brighten for a second before he shook his head softly.

"I will not drag you into my problems." His voice was soft as He stepped onto the window ledge. "Not now not ever."

"Arthur please no." I was sobbing, gut wrenching sobs as he looked out the window back to me. I placed my hands on the tiny budge on my stomach as I continued to cry. "You can't leave, you can't leave us."

"Us?" His eyes flickered to my hands over my stomach and I rapidly nodded.

"Arthur you are going to be father."

Arthur smiled softly, his eyes no longer leaking tears, like the news finally brought him piece.

"Then I do this to protect the both of you."

He smiled at me, sadly and softly before he allowed the wind to carry him down to the ground below.

I rushed to towards the window, my legs simply not running fast enough. They gave way, and I fell against the window ledge sobbing as I looked down to see the love of my life lying one hundred feet below in such a lifeless position it caused my heart to shatter slowly but just as painfully.

I was too late.

I could not save him.

He was gone.
