I was lying in my chambers staring at the ceiling when a knock at the wooden door made me sit up.
"Come- in." I say putting my royal voice on. Being Arthur's younger sister was a lot to live up to. He was the prince destined to be king and I was just the princess who was going nowhere. At least Morgana was known as the Kings ward where I am just the princess.
Merlin entered the room sticking his head around the door, grinning like mad. I sit up straighter smiling back, hating the way my hearts beating faster.
"Come with me." I immediately stand but noticing the smirk on his face I do not walk towards him.
"What about Arthur?" I question and he shrugs. "Are you not meant to be cleaning something of his?" He shrugs again.
"Most likely," he grins at me and I laugh shaking my head. "Come with me," he repeats and I look around my room looking for some sort of reason.
"I-" I start but stop when I see his glorious face sighing. "Where we going?" He grins at me, not answering, and he grabs my hand pulling me out the room. He drags me down the halls my hand wrapped tightly in his when we spot Arthur coming from a corner. Merlin stops suddenly and pushes us into an alcove. We are both breathing heavily as I realise I am pressed up against his chest. I can feel his breath fanning my face and it sends tingles down my spine. I look up at him and see his face is full of restraint. But why?
He pokes his head around the alcove and takes my hand in his again leading me up a small flight of stairs. He lets go of my hand as there is no room in the space and he walks up the spiralling stairs.
"Merlin-" I start after I stepped onto the twenty fifth step. "Where are we going?"
"Just another fifty steps," he replies and my eyes brows raise and I click my tongue. We reach the top after what seems like forever and I lean against the wall breathing heavily. He takes my hand in his again as he leads me down the hallway. I glance out a window and my eyes widen as they take in how high we are. At the end of the hall he opens a door leading onto a open space with no roof where I can see all of Camelot with the sun setting behind it. He lets my hand go as I walk to a wall leaning slightly.
"It is beautiful," I breathe smiling at my home. The sun glints of each rooftop, making them look like shining pieces of fire, readying to burn to the ground. Standing here, seeing as far as I can, really makes me realise how small my Camelot is compared to the world.
"I hoped you would like it," Merlin appears next to me speaking quietly. I watch the sun slowly fading and I lean into him without realising.
"Why you showing me this?" I ask looking up at him. In his eyes I can see the shadow of the setting sun.
"I want to prove myself to you." He looks down at me, like everything around him revolves around me, and it turns my legs to jelly. "I want to be worthy of you because these past years you have been my world yet we live worlds apart." I can feel every movement in my chest as it rises and falls.
"You do not need to be worthy of me. You do not need to prove yourself to me. You are enough." I find myself looking into his beautiful eyes as he looks into mine and I never want to break this gaze.
"You are the princess. You deserve a prince in armour not a servant in cloth." He bitterly says dropping the gaze.
"Surely it matters at how I look you. You look at yourself and see a shabby boy, but when I look at you I see a handsome man." I turn so my body is facing his and I take that one step closer to him. "Merlin look at me," he does and I stand on my toes so I can look him in the eye. "You are the person I want." I whisper.
"Really?" He whispers back and I nod.
"Really." I look up at him and take in every feature. The way the sun shines off his cheek bones as it sets and the way his cheeks bunch up when he smiles. His eyes that crinkle when he looks at me and those perfect lips. "No more proving, just being okay?" I whisper and he leans closer so our noses are touching as he gently places his hands on my waist.
"Anything for you princess." He smiles at the corner of his mouth before I press my own against his. Instantly he responds and I find myself no longer caring who I was as long as he was here with me.
