The journey to Cloud Recesses took two days, no matter how much they tried to hurry.

The inn they had to stop at for the night was all decorated too, and people were celebrating New Year's Day, drinking and making merry.

None of their company was in the mood to celebrate – Lan Wangji looked like a dead man, his face was ashen, his heart was beating very slowly, and Lan Xichen could sense this core's light diminish and fade by the hour.

**

Bai Li welcomed them to the House all in tears. She bowed very low to them both, and said desperately:

- Zewu-Jun, Sandu Shengshou, Master Wei is dying! Please, help him!

When they entered the room, they saw Wen Ning sharing resentful energy with Wei Ying – he frowned when they saw them bring Lan Zhan's relaxed body to the bed too.

- They knew that his would happen. Why did they do this? Why have they decided to die?? – he looked up to anyone for an explanation.

But both Sandu Shengshou and Zewu-Jun just shook their heads.

- I shared some energy with Wangji too... I suspect that's the only reason he is still alive... - Lan Huan said sadly.

- Yes. Same for Wei Gongzi here. – Wen Ning replied. – We need to let them recharge and rest. Now that they are together again, we can only hope it's not too late.

He shook his head, frowning again, and everyone left the room.

Bai Li was too busy to prepare rooms for the Masters and all the servants were helping in the kitchen and with getting warm water, but it was hard, as most of the servants had gone home as per Hanguang-Jun's permission.

Everyone was gathered in the Guest Hall, and Jiang Cheng was frowning, seeing how good and healthy Miao Lu was looking.

She had lowered her eyes and dared not look up, remembering Wei Wuxian's birthday too vividly. She was answering questions, but definitely felt uncomfortable.

She had had a nice and quiet time with her Master Wen, although she was feeling weaker, and heavier somehow. Then Zewu-Jun came to visit, and she was mesmerized with his beauty and amazing attitude – he was very gentle and careful, always asking permission before touching her belly, or approaching her. She was amazed at how different he was from his brother.

And then, three days ago, Yunmeng servants had arrived and had brought her Master Wei, all pale and thin, and in a comma. He had given them all a great scare; she felt her heart sinking when she saw him – something deep inside her was telling her that if he died – her baby would be gone too.

She was terrified.

Now the Masters were talking about very serious things, and she thought she would faint. Her belly was already starting to show, and her hands were resting on it, keeping her baby warm. Despite everything, all the fears and shock, she felt she really loved this baby.

Zewu-Jun was reminding her to eat, but she felt too anxious to even swallow. She sipped on tea, and listened.

- Some New Year's, I say! - Jiang Cheng growled.

- Darling, no. – Zewu-Jun took his hand and squeezed it gently. – This must be serious. Master Wei was very sick before he set out from Yunmeng. I worry for the both of them. Wangji is my brother, yes, but he is the stronger of the two...- he bit his lip.

- They knew. I warned them. – Wen Ning said darkly. – They knew very well what would happen in a situation like this. Why did they do it? – he looked at the party almost angrily, surprising them all – unless controlled by Wei Wuxian's flute, the Ghost General had a calm and gentle character.

- I wish we knew... - Zewu-Jun said sadly. – I hope A-Yuan gets here soon... They both love him very much, I think it might help them recover. – he said with hope in his voice.

- The idiots... - Jiang Cheng mumbled, but anyone could see he was worried too.

Bai Li barged in, bowing, and bringing food. She had instructed two servant girls to feed the fire in the hall at all times, and now – checking on them – she noticed that both looked scared and pale; they had heard the conversation too.

- Masters, I must apologize. We are short-staffed at the moment, most people are home, celebrating New Year's.

- Please, don't worry, Bai Li. – Lan Xichen turned to her gently. – There are more important things now. But please, prepare a room for Lan Sizhui; he should be arriving any moment now.

She gaped – that was news for her. The servant girls and Miao Lu blushed, happy that they would be seeing the Young Master soon.

- Of course, Zewu-Jun, right away.
The Hanshi  is ready too. – she bowed again.

- Perfect, thank you. I will be staying there with Sandu Shengshou. – he said smiling.

She did not comment, but bowed to hide a smile.

She left, taking the servants with her. The one most surprised by that sentence was probably Miao Lu – she was so shocked that now she was looking at them, staring actually – they were holding hands and Sandu Shengshou was leaning his head on Zewu-Jun's shoulder, and his arm was hugging his waist.

Wonders never ceased.
