sixty-four: some sort of tradition

Harry pretends it didn't happen, deleting the text, blocking the number and carrying on with his day as if it nothing was wrong. Anne seems to catch on to her son's sudden change in demeanor but she doesn't say anything and for that Harry was grateful. Harry spends most of his time taking care of Noah, sending the occasional text to Niall and trying to keep himself distracted.

Niall calls Harry again before bed, just like he had the last two nights and Harry was secretly hoping that this was going to be a tradition for the next two weeks. Harry didn't have the heart to put Noah in his crib that night, the baby sleeping soundly on his chest for the time being.

"What time do you guys go on?" Harry asks, glancing at the clock on his bedside table to see that it was just past eleven which meant it was six where Niall was. It was their first show since their last break and it was safe to say Niall was a little nervous.

"We go on at like eight, I think but I'm not sure... but doors are open right now and the venue is filling as we speak. There's an opening act and I know they go on at seven, so I'm sticking with eight." Niall says, sounding a little confident with the answer.

"You excited?" Harry asks, looking down at Noah who had let out a little huff but he appeared to still be sleeping.

"Yeah, course I am. I love it, I love every second of it, but I can't help but be a little nervous sometimes." Niall admits and Harry can't help the fond smile on his face as he does.

"You'll do great, Ni. You always do."

"I think I'd do better if you were here." Niall whispers and Harry rolls his eyes but he still feels his heart flutter at the words.

"I wish I was there too, Ni... but I don't think it's wise to take a two week old baby to a concert... Let's wait till he's a year before we burst his ear drums." Harry says and Niall lets out a laugh.

"I guess I can live with that. How's the little babe anyways? I watched your vlog today, he seemed very awake during the whole thing."

"Well being awake during the whole vlog sure did tucker him out, so he's sleeping on my chest at the current moment. I'm liking the company." Harry says, still staring at Noah fondly. He wanted so badly to nuzzle his nose into the little baby's hair but he didn't want to risk waking up said baby.

"I would literally kill to see that right now... Does he smell good? He always smells good." Niall asks and Harry can't help the small amount of sympathy that rushes through him. Niall was clearly missing them just as much as they were missing him, but Harry just kept telling himself he only had two more weeks of this.

"He smells like Noah." Harry says and Niall lets out a groan on the other end. Harry tries not to laugh at that, but a small giggle still escapes.

"God I miss that kid so much. I miss you both like crazy, but I really need to have that baby back in my arms." Niall says and Harry couldn't help but nod in agreement because that was how Harry felt about Niall.

"Two more weeks."

"It's actually less than two weeks."

"Exactly, less than two weeks and then you can have all the Noah cuddles you want... that is if you promise me cuddles too." Harry says and maybe he's pouting but Niall wasn't there to see it.

"I would never pass on Harry cuddles." Niall reassures and Harry's smiling again but it was short lived.

"So um... I got an interesting call from your mother today." Niall says, his voice now taking a more serious tone to it. Harry lets out a sigh, biting down on his bottom lip before he asks a question he was dreading.

"What'd she say?" Harry asks, his voice barely over a whisper.

"She's worried about you, I guess you had a bit of a run in with a certain ex of yours the other day that you didn't mind telling me about." Niall says and Harry could practically see that disapproving frown on his face.

"I was waiting until you got home so we could deal with it together... I didn't want to worry you." Harry says and Niall lets out a sigh of his own.

"H, I'm going to worry about you regardless of whether or not you told me.... but I really would've preferred it if you'd said something about it." Niall says, his voice reassuring but that didn't make Harry feel any less guilty.

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay, H. Are you okay though? I know he's not exactly the nicest person in the world." Niall asks and Harry feels the fluttering in his stomach again because Niall's first concern was always how Harry was doing.

"I'm okay, Ni. I'm over it, it's like it never happened. I'll probably never see him again." Harry says and he doesn't know why he isn't telling Niall about the text message.

"Let's hope that's the case... Now what lullaby are we requesting tonight? I got about ten minutes before I gotta get ready." Niall asks, moving on and Harry couldn't help but feel a little grateful at that. He was sure they'd discuss it more when Niall got back, but it was over with for the time being.

"Surprise me." Harry says, slowly moving to put Noah into the bassinet as he knew he'd be falling asleep if Niall serenaded him and he didn't want to risk Noah falling off his chest while he slept.

"Baby Got Back it is."
