Christmas Eve

I woke up to Louis and Harry singing 'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer' at the top of their lungs. I give Jay props for not yelling her head off. I brought the blanket over my head and tried to go back to sleep. Minutes later, I felt jumping on my bed, followed by obnoxious laughter.

"Y/N, it's time to wake up! We need to get dressed and then off to Church!" Louis announced quite loudly. Who needed an alarm clock when you had him, right?

I remained still, grateful that his counterpart didn't follow him in my room. One loud one was enough. "Louis, it's not even Christmas," I whined, shoving my head under the pillow.

He sighed dramatically and said, "We're going to spend the rest of the day here, okay? My mom is throwing a party and there will be people so you need to be sociable and not your awkward self," he joked, poking my side.

I almost whimpered. "But... we didn't make enough cookies..." I vaguely remember Niall telling me they were solely for his sisters. It would be a shame that we didn't have enough.

Louis sighed dramatically. "Fine, we'll bring them with us and everyone can eat them on the way there or something. Dress warmly because it's still dark outside," he tugged the blanket off of me and threw it on the floor.

I sat up, disoriented. Louis was already dressed in a simple suit and tie, with his oxfords newly polished. I raised my eyebrows. "Well, you definitely look warm."

"I wanted to look nice," he snapped. "Get dressed." With that, he turned around and left my room.

-

In the end, I decided on a red, medium-length dress, paired with tights and black ankle boots. Was I going to be warm? Far from it, but at least I looked nice. Lottie had offered to curl my hair and she did it in a way where I could not have done it myself, no matter how hard I tried.

"Laaaadies, your carriage awaits!" Louis yelled from downstairs.

Lottie giggled and grabbed my hand. One of the good parts of this small vacation was meeting Louis' sisters, twins included. It wasn't hard to warm up to his family. "You ready to go, Lot?" I asked, smoothing my dress.

She nodded. "Yeah, I'm excited."

When we reached the first floor, everyone was all dressed up. Niall and Harry were wearing identical suits to Louis and I silently thanked myself for choosing to wear one of my formal dresses. Niall looked as me and raised his eyebrow.

I watched as his eyes appraised my dress before he gave me a smug smile that resulted in me putting my trench coat on faster than planned.

After the service was over, we returned to the house, where we were given a few minutes to ourselves before the guests started to come. The rest of the Tomlinson family were exactly like Louis - welcoming, warm-hearted, and loud, but in the nicest of ways.

I walked to the kitchen to grab a cup of Jay's famous hot chocolate when I was met with the sight of Niall talking to a small group of teenage boys. I couldn't help but overhear the conversation. Apparently he was in the middle of giving them a lesson.

"The women love a man that could play an instrument - preferably guitar," he bragged while two or three heads nodded around him.

I couldn't help but snort while I poured myself another glass. Typical.

The group of boys turned my direction. "I play guitar!" A boy with a mohawk called out, raising his hand to get noticed.

Niall put his hand on the boy's shoulder. "You don't want her, Pat. She's a lion..."

I rolled my eyes and tried to contain the series of curse words I had for him. Another boy chuckled and said, "Don't sweat it, Pat. Niall just wants her all to himself. Let's give them some time, fellas." He winked at me (really) before leading his small group out of the kitchen.

What? I looked at Niall and he was looking down at the ground. I shrugged, "I just came to grab some hot chocolate, so by all means, proceed with whatever you were doing, O great one."

I got a very interesting gesture from him before I left the kitchen.

-

Who would have ever thought that in some alternate universe, I would be happily chatting with Niall Horan? It was now a fact - I have lost my mind.

After the party ended, I found myself in the spare room he was staying in, striking an actual conversation that led to an hour of talking. "One Christmas, I asked for a Sulley costume."

I tucked my legs under me. He was positioned at the foot of his bed while he let me take the top. "Sulley, like from Monsters Inc.?"

Niall took a sip from his bottle of beer. "Yeah, that Sulley. Apparently, they didn't make them for twelve-year-olds. They had to get me nighties." He said with disappointment that I had to laugh.

I pulled his blanket toward me as he turned to face me. "What about you? Any embarrassing Christmas stories that I can later tease you in the future?" He asked as he put the beer on the floor.

I shrugged. "No, not really."

He genuinely looked surprised. "What? You're like fifteen, aren't you?"

I kicked his thigh. "I'm twenty, you idiot."

Niall smirked. "Well, whatever. So you never had a childhood memory?"

"I did, but not one that I was fond of," I explained.

The clock on the mantle read 1:23 am. I excused myself politely and left his room. Maybe it was sleep I needed to get my sanity back.

-

It was Christmas morning and everyone was gathered around the tree, opening presents. Harry and Louis both pitched in for my gift and gave me a whole outfit (no, really), Lottie gave me a curling iron, Fizzy and the twins gave me a pink scarf, while Jay and her husband gave me an enormous box of my favorite chocolates.

On the other hand, Niall gave me a leather bound journal (something I had really wanted to get myself but never had the chance to), sunflowers, and a teddy bear that was three feet.

What.

When everyone was alone doing their own things, I approached him in his room. "You sick bastard," I whispered.

Niall looked at me like I just told him I killed his dog. "Excuse me?"

"You purposely gave me good presents to make me feel bad!" Seriously, that was not cool and he knew it.

Niall raised an eyebrow. "No, I didn't. Besides, I like your present." He reached forward and pressed the foot of the teddy bear, which began to sing 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'.

The smirk he gave me led me to believe the opposite. I walked closer to him. "I don't believe you, you ignorant ass."

He laughed, like genuinely laughed. "Are you seriously asking for compliments?" He walked over to me. "I bought you the journal because I remembered you couldn't keep your damn mouth shut about it a few weeks ago. I got you the sunflowers because Lottie told me you liked them and they weren't easy to get, either. I got you the bear, because why the hell not? Plus, I wanted to see how ridiculous you would look carrying it around." He rolled his eyes. I genuinely saw anger and annoyance. "What's so wrong with me wanting to impress you?"

"Impress me? You hate me, Niall. Why change your opinions now?" I crossed my arms as a barrier because he was getting awfully close.

Niall grabbed my elbow.

"What are you -"

He leaned forward and kissed me. He kissed me.

Oh damn.
