Waking up in the Gryffindor common room was not something I expected to do today. Witnessing Albus and Scorpius kissing was also something I was not expecting to do today but here we are.
Rose, Albus, Scorpius and I all passed out on the couches after the party died down. Rose and I on one couch, Albus and Scorpius on the other couch. In hindsight maybe we should have split them up.
I don't think they realize that I'm awake, and I don't know if I should let them know or not.
"What in the ever-loving fuck is going on down here?" James shouts from somewhere across the room.
Albus and Scorpius jump halfway across the couch away from each other. I sit up and rub the sleep out of my eyes pretending like I just woke up. Rose yawns loudly and covers her face with her hands.
"James, it's not – we uhm..." Al stutters over his words a bit.
James presses the palms of his hands into his eyes, "This castle is full of private rooms Albus, I don't want to see my brother snogging Scorpius as soon as I wake up. Fuck I don't want to see anyone snogging anyone as soon as I wake up."
That gets Rose's attention. She takes her hands away from her face and sits up, "You two? You – you and Scor?" She says looking at Albus.
Albus flushes a deep shade of red and Scorpius does the same, "Uhm...." Is all either of them manage to say.
A girl comes down the stairs and wraps herself around James. "Moring James." She says in a sultry voice. I can't control the look of disgust on my face and Rose laughs at me.
"Morning... uh..."
The girl pulls away from him, "You don't remember my name?"
James glances over to us like we would be any help in this situation. "No! Couse I remember your name darling. But you're so fucking hot that I'm at a loss of words."
Rose and I roll our eyes at the same time, I can see Albus lean back into the couch and cover his face with a pillow from the second-hand embarrassment.
"It's Jessica." The girl says, not looking impressed in the slightest.
James smiles, "Course it's Jessica. What else would it have been?" He kisses her cheek and the girl, Jessica, smiles a little, "Come on sweetheart let's get you some breakfast."
James and Jessica walk past us, not before James swats the back of Al's head as he passes by and they leave the common room together.
Rose and I look at the two boys. "You two? Snogging?" I say, "Consider me a little grossed out." Albus and Scorpius look at each other, then back at me a little confused. "Oh no, not the fact that you're guys or whatever. But you're both my cousins. Dunno feels a little ick."
"We may be your cousin, but we aren't each other's cousins," Scorpius says to me. "Wanna go get something to eat?" he says to Albus.
"God yeah, I feel like shit," Albus says getting up from the couch. They hold hands as they walk out of the common room together.
Once the door closes behind them Rose slumps deep into the couch, "And here I was thinking that Scorpius fancied me." She says softly.
I look at the door to the common room then back to Rose a few times, "Do all of my cousins fancy Scorpius?" I say loudly which makes her half-smile.
"I don't think Dom does, with what she was doing last night with that boy," Rose says sadly. I can tell she's trying to make a joke and lift her spirits herself because Ophelia isn't here to do it.
She looks at me with hurt in her eyes, but I really don't know what to say or do to help the situation, I've never been good with other people's emotions. "He snores when he sleeps, and he picks his nose. You can do a lot better than him." I say in hopes to make her feel better.
It does much to my surprise and she laughs, "Come on, let's go eat."
The next week or so flew past in a rush of compositions and new spells. It feels like I haven't left the library since the Gryffindor party. Which honestly isn't that bad, I like it in here.
I'm one of the few students that don't use a muggle laptop to do my assignments and things. People everywhere have got their laptops on and are typing furiously at the keys trying to get things done. I sort of want one, I mean it would make things so much easier to do, and the library has a few printers so I could have my composition done in a few hours rather than a few days. And it'll save money on parchment.
I don't think mum and dad would like me to have one though. I mean they would get me one because I want it and Dad has this whole thing about getting us everything we want because Nan and Pops couldn't get him a bunch of stuff when he was a kid but I know that Mum doesn't want us to rely on muggle technology very much.
"Hey, have you seen your brother recently?" Molly says as she sits down in front of me at my desk.
I look at her, "Nope, he's probably on the quidditch pitch or getting high by the lake."
She groans, "I've checked all those places, just thought that you would know where else to check."
"Why do you need him?"
The tip of her ears go pink, "He saw me last week at the Gryffindor party with... you know what? Doesn't matter why I need him. If you see him around let him know I want to talk."
She gets up and leaves and I watch her walk out of the library for a minute before going back to my notes.
No one bothers me for the rest of the day but I didn't expect anyone to say anything to me honestly. Albus and Scorpius now have each other, Rose misses Ophelia, Freddie's off doing whatever, and I haven't seen Darcy in a long time.
As the library closes up Madam Pince comes over to me and helps me put some of my books away, "We are starting a tutoring program in the library. With grades like yours, you would make an excellent tutor Miss Weasley." She says to me.
"I'm only in third year, I wouldn't be much help," I say putting my parchment and things back in my bag.
Madam Pince looks at me, "You would help a lot of first-year students. And I know of a few third years that could use help from a smart witch like you."
I smile and put my backpack on, "I'll think about it. Can I let you know on Monday?"
"We're meeting on Monday, so just come by the library if you want and we can get you working with a student that needs your help."
I smile and nod before leaving the library. Darcy is waiting on the other side of the door. "Hey, long time no see," I say to him.
"How's Ophelia doing?" He asks as we start walking down the corridor.
I shrug, "I've written a few owls to her but mum says that she can't write back quite yet and Leah doesn't want mum or dad to do it for her."
Darcy laughs to himself, "Stubborn git isn't she?"
"Definitely."
We walk in silence for a bit, "Sorry I haven't been around much. I've been a lousy friend as of late."
"You haven't been a lousy friend Darcy. Don't worry about any of it."
He nudges me with his shoulder and we laugh together, "Want to head up to the music room? Dinners not for another hour or so."
"Yeah, alright."
Darcy unlocks the door and we walk in together. It's not like we can't be in here or anything but we should have asked for permission from Professor Harper and Professor Floquet cause they're the two main music professors at Hogwarts.
Darcy goes over and picks up an acoustic guitar. I sit down at the grand piano and slowly run my fingers across the keys lightly so I don't make a sound. Darcy strums the strings of his guitar a few times and starts to hum a song I don't think I've ever heard before. I listen for a while before I start to play the piano, trying to match what he's doing.
Darcy looks up and smiles at me really big, playing the guitar a little louder and with more confidence. "Cassie and I need to find a place, to perfect our potions final. We stumbled upon an empty girl's bathroom, in a corridor on the second floor. Then we heard someone say." Darcy starts to sing louder.
I laugh loudly and mess up the keys a few times which makes Darcy laugh. A song about Moaning Myrtle's bathroom is not something that I expected him to sing. I regain my composure and think for a second before I start to sing, "Get out of my bathroom, you're not welcome here, this is my home, not yours so don't disturb it. Stay out of my bathroom cause you're not dead or a girl, so I don't want you in here."
Darcy laughs again, I look over at him and he has the dumbest smile on his face. "Hey Myrtle dear, let us play around in your bathroom. I think you're kind of cute, even though you're dead."
I smile to myself, think for a second, then sing, "I don't let boys hang around in my bathroom. Maybe we can make a little deal here. But if we can't..." I look at Darcy and he gets up from his chair and slowly comes over to me, strumming his guitar, "Get out of my bathroom, you're not welcome here, this is my home, not yours so don't disturb it. Stay out of my bathroom cause you're not dead or a girl so I don't want you in here." I sing what I assume is going to be the chorus of this dumb song.
Darcy sits on the edge of the piano bench, "Let's make a deal, what do you want? I want to make you my partner." His voice cracks halfway through his line which makes me giggle.
"Alright Darcy, I really want to use this bathroom, what're we gonna do?" I sing back to him.
Darcy looks right at me before he sings. I start to get butterflies in my stomach like I did at the beginning of the year when I looked at him. "Think about it Cassie, Myrtle never leaves this bathroom, I think we've got a deal here. Now let's tell her what's up."
I look away from Darcy and back at my hands on the piano keys, "We're staying in your bathroom, cause you are our friend. You're now our study partner."
I look back at Darcy, he's smiling at me really big. I take a breath and sing again, making my voice higher so I sound more like Myrtle, "Then you can use my bathroom, whenever you want. And I'll visit your toilets in London once the year is through."
Darcy laughs and shakes his head, "Now we're in this bathroom and everyone is happy. We're partners, it's Darcy, Cassie and Myrtle. Now we're all in this bathroom and everyone is happy. We're partners, it's Darcy, Cassie and Myrtle."
Darcy stops playing the guitar and I play a few more notes before I stop playing the piano too. I look at Darcy who is sitting fairly close to me now, was he always this close? "That was pretty good improvising you just did," Darcy says.
I laugh and shove his shoulder a bit, "A song about moaning myrtles bathroom, really?"
"You gotta write what's close to home."
I laugh, "And Moaning Myrtle is close to home? Does someone have a little crush?"
Darcy's cheeks go pink, "Yeah but not on Myrtle." Darcy and I look at each other, I'm suddenly very aware of the fact that I forgot to brush my hair this morning. Thankfully, the dinner bell rings. Darcy and I stand up, he puts the guitar back where he found it and I pick up my bag.
I go over to the door and put my hand on the handle, "Wait, Cass." Darcy says coming over to me, "Look at me real quick?" He puts the tip of his index finger on my cheek and turns my head to look at him. Then he does something I didn't expect. He kisses my lips very softly and pulls away slowly. "Sorry. I know that we said that we both wanted to be just friends and everything, but I had to do that. Just once."
Then he pulls open the door and walks out in front of me. I'm in shock, my head feels fuzzy, my stomach full of butterflies. "You coming Weasley?" Darcy says to me, tilting his head a little like a puppy waiting for his owner.
"Yeah, yeah. Let's go eat."
