When love takes over

Awkwardness

"Hmm" she smiles and looks to see what's on the menu.

"Hmm how about we share something?" Raf suggests.

"What about this one?" She says pointing to one.

"Strawberry Cheesecake and a choice of two scoops of ice cream or whipped cream" he reads.

"Sounds nice right" she smiles.

"Yes lovely" he says.

"We'll share that then" Cara smiles.

"I'll go and order" she smiles as she gets up.

Raf's mum gets up with her and goes also. Raf looks at them and smiles as they walk off.

While at the bar Joyce asks her some rather personal questions which makes Cara feel rather awkward.

"You two look very happy" Joyce smiles.

"We are" Cara smiles as she waits to give the order.

"So what happened with your last relationship?" Joyce asks.

"Just didn't work out" Cara says awkwardly.

"How come?" She questions.

"He was always at work" Cara says.

"But Raf's job requires long hours which I'm sure yours does too..." she says making Cara feel a little anxious.

"Yes it does but..." Cara says not really wanting to get into it.

"But what?" Joyce asks.

"You said having children didn't work out, are things okay?" Joyce adds.

"Yeah" she replies trying to act normal.

"Ah that's alright then" Joyce smiles.

Cara orders their deserts and waits for a few more drinks, "so do you and Raf plan to have children?" Joyce asks.

"Erm haven't really spoke about it probably" Cara says awkwardly.

"So would you like children?" She asks.

"One day" Cara just says.

"Sure, so how long was your previous marriage?" Joyce asks.

"Five years" she replies.

"Woah that's quite a while" Joyce says a little shocked.

"Yeah" Cara smiles as she takes the two drinks back to the table.

"Alright" Raf smiles at Cara as she sits down.

She nods and smiles before sitting down. Soon they are digging into their cheesecake. Cara smiles and eats a bit of the ice cream.

"Good choice" Raf smiles. Cara laughs and looks at his parents.

Raf's parents watch them and smile as they all finish off their desert.

"You okay?" Raf smiles at Cara as he strokes her thigh.

"Yeah" she smiles. Raf smiles at Cara again and kisses her cheek.

"Maybe we should go soon" she mumbles.

"Yeah it's getting late, stopping at mine tonight?" He asks.

"Of course" she smiles.

"Mum me and Cara are on early tomorrow... we'll have to go soon" Raf says.

"Ah no worries Raf, we should as well" Joyce smiles.

Raf smiles and stands, Cara grabs her bag and stands next to Raf.

"It was really nice to meet you" Cara says.

"Likewise" Alister smiles.

Cara gets her jacket on and Joyce comes over and kisses her cheek, "you'll have to come over with Raf on a Sunday for Sunday lunch, one of the weeks" she smiles.

"That'll be nice wouldn't it Raf" Cara smiles.

Raf nods and smiles "yes defiantly" he replies.

They head out to the door and smile as they go their separate ways.

Cara gets into Raf's car and waits for Raf to get in. Raf waves his parents off and goes round the car and gets in.

"Okay?" He asks as s turns the car on.

"Is your mum normally like that?" Cara asks.

"What do you mean?" Raf says.

"Constantly asking questions?" She says.

"Why what was she asking?" He questions.

"She kept asking me why my last relationship didn't work out... and at one point I think she was trying to ask if I was able to have children..." she says awkwardly.

"Oh my god, I'll have to speak to her" Raf says completely stunned.

"I'm surprised she doesn't ask about my periods and ovulation" Cara says.

"I can't believe she was asking you that" he says shocked.

"Someone's a little desperate for grandchildren" Cara smirks.

"She's like that... quite embarrassing" he says.

Cara smiles and sits there quietly. She just smiles at him as he drives them back to his.

"I'll phone her in the morning and make her apologise to you" Raf says as they pull up on his drive way.

"She probably doesn't even realise, don't make too much of a deal" she says not wanting to get off on the wrong foot.

"Oh she does" Raf says.

"Oh" Cara laughs.

"I think it's because my brother and his wife don't want children" Raf explains.

"I see, that's why she's like that then" she says.

"Yes it's never ending" Raf laughs.

"My mum is like that sometimes, you just don't know yet" she laughs.

"Don't know what?" Raf asks.

"She's a little pushy at times" she says.

He gets out the car and she follows. "You're her only child I can see why she's pushy, but my mum knows I have a brother" Raf laughs.

"Mothers aye" Cara laughs as they head to the door.

"I'm sure when you're ready you'll be an amazing Mother" Raf smiles as he hangs his keys up.

"Oh don't you start" Cara replies.

"What" he laughs.

"I'm not having a baby!" She says.

"I know I found that out earlier" he laughs.

"I don't even know if I'm ready, I said to Jed when I hit 30 I'd try" Cara explains.

"Don't feel pressured I was only teasing" he says.

"I know you were" she replies.

Raf smiles and goes into the kitchen. Cara sits on the sofa and puts her phone on charge.

Raf comes back through with a glass of water and sits by Cara. She cuddles up to him and doesn't say much.

He puts his arm around her and kisses her head.
