You Don't Scare Me

CHRIS

I loved y/n, she was perfect. Ever since her cousin Vinny set us up we'd been inseparable. We knew everything about each other, including our likes and our fears. But y/n had one fear I couldn't quite understand. She had a fear of car washes, whenever her car needed cleaning she'd make me go.

"Hey, Vinny I have a quick question about y/n. Why does she have a fear of car washes?"

Vinny shushes me before closing the kitchen door cutting us off from y/n and the rest of the band who were watching a movie.

"It's a touchy subject for her. But I guess if you really want to know Chris then I'll tell you."

I nod and Vinny hops up onto one of the stools.

"y/n was really close to her parents and stuck to them like glue. One day she fell asleep in her car seat and her parents went to a car wash. They left y/n sleeping in the car while the car went through. y/n woke up and got scared, it also didn't help that one of the wipers malfunctioned causing the car to be shaken around. y/n's been afraid of them ever since."

I assumed it was going to be a silly reason behind her fear, but it sounded like y/n was affected pretty badly. Now I felt like it was my mission to help her get over this fear.

~Next Day~

Y/N

Chris said the two of you were going out for a drive which you didn't mind because you liked driving around with him.

"Chris you really need to get your car washed at some point."

Chris nods from the driver seat before turning into a gas station. You saw on the dashboard that the car had enough fuel, so you couldn't understand why Chris was here. But before you could question him he locked the car doors and drove towards the dreaded car wash.

"Chris this isn't funny. I really don't like these things."

You clutch your seatbelt for dear life.

"Vinny told me what happened years ago y/n. This time, you won't be alone because I'm by your side."

Chris reaches over the console and takes one of your hands and draws circles which always calmed you down. It was a nice gesture but you were still internally freaking out.

"If anything bad happens in there Chris I'm throwing you in first and running."

"Deal y/n." He chuckles while steering the car into the car wash.

The machine comes to life and you're transported back to your childhood. Your parents didn't want to wake you up so they left you in the car. Shutting your eyes, you try to get your breathing under control as loud noises erupt all around you.

"It can't hurt you y/n. I won't let it hurt you, don't let it scare you anymore."

You try to focus on the calmness in Chris's voice if he wasn't scared maybe everything would be okay.

"You don't scare me...you don't scare me...you don't scare me...you—"

"You don't scare me."

Chris cuts off your chant making you open your eyes. He smiles warmly at you, most guys would have made fun of you but Chris wasn't mocking you. No one else had ever tried to help you get over your fear, but Chris was giving up his time to make you feel better.

"Why are you helping me, Chris?"

"Because I love you y/n, and together we help each other through difficult times."

Forgetting where you were for a second, you take off your seatbelt and lean over the console to kiss Chris. He laughs against your lips before kissing back. You wrap your arms around his neck and part your lips so Chris could deepen the kiss.

The car comes to a stop a couple minutes later forcing you to pull away from Chris who was grinning like a madman.

"You did it, babe, you just conquered your fear."

You look around the car and see that it's still intact as were you and Chris. The car wash hadn't hurt you.

"If making out with my boyfriend in a car wash helped me overcome my fear, then we should have done this much sooner."

Chris laughs as you throw your arms in the air dramatically.
