Family Stick Together

Y/N

You were lucky that your brother Kellin had invited you to come on tour with him and his band Sleeping with Sirens. The two of you didn't have the best relationship with the rest of your family so you always stuck together. His wife Katelynne was also excited about having another girl on tour to keep her company, despite the fact you lived with them and their daughter. You knew they let you stay because you were a free babysitter.

Before tour started you'd been feeling ill, you'd had headaches and felt sick but you never told Kellin because he had a lot on his plate. With a tour and working on new music. When you had your third blackout you started to worry because you'd seen these symptoms before. Your aunt and grandma had both had brain cancer and the doctors said that you could get it as well. And now you had the symptoms. Both your aunt and grandma had died from the cancer.

The doctors took some blood and did some scans and said they'd get back to you with the results. You hid your pain from your brother and the rest of the band and Katelynne. The tour started with no hitches, you took pills to keep the headaches away and Kellin knew you slept a lot so didn't question the constant naps.

Katelynne on the other hand was suspicious and cornered you alone on the bus one day. It was the day you got your results back, when they told you that a tumour was growing on your brain you broke down and told her everything. She was upset that you hadn't told anyone that you were hurting. You made her promise not to tell Kellin because you weren't ready and would tell him when he had less on his plate. She agreed reluctantly and told you that you would get through this.

Two months into the tour and you were on the side stage with Katelynne singing along to The Strays. The headaches had gotten better and you didn't feel like anything major was wrong with you until the last few notes.

"y/n are you okay? Oh god your nose is bleeding."

You bring your hand to your nose and notice blood, you suddenly feel dizzy and the last thing you hear before you black out is Katelynne screaming.

KELLIN

The fans were amazing, the show was going great. I had my biggest supporters in the wings, my beautiful wife and little sister. After The Strays I heard Katelynne scream, I turned and watched y/n collapse on the floor. Gabe swore behind me and rushed off stage to her aid; I turned to face the fans and cleared my throat.

"It looks like we have a medical emergency backstage so have to cut the show short guys, I'm sorry and you've been an amazing crowd."

I dropped the microphone and ran off stage along with the rest of the band. Gabe had called for an ambulance and was supporting y/n's head. Justin, Jack and Nick looked down at y/n's lifeless body and next to me Katelynne sobbed while clutching onto me.

"Kellin I need to tell you something about y/n. She made me promise not to tell you because she didn't want to bother you while you were touring and working on new music. She said she would tell you in her own time."

I turned to face Katelynne who had a look of guilt written across her face, "tell me what Katelynne?"

"y/n was diagnosed with cancer on the brain a couple of months ago. She said she didn't want to be a pain since you've done so much for her. This last month she'd been feeling better and had no dizzy spells or headaches. I'm sorry babe."

My little sister had brain cancer, but she looked healthy? Then little things dawned on me, all the naps and leaning against things while she stood up for long periods of time and rubbed her temples. How could I not see the signs? I was supposed to protect her and she was protecting me because she didn't want to bother anyone.

I wasn't mad at Katelynne, she kept her promise to y/n. If I was in trouble I'd probably tell Katelynne to keep it from y/n. I held my sister's cold hand as Justin checked for a pulse, where the hell was this ambulance? They needed to make my sister better before she got worse.

In the distance I saw two people running towards us, they told us all to move away so they could do their job. y/n had a seizure which had triggered a brain aneurysm. I watched as they loaded her into a back of an ambulance with a breathing mask over her face. I sat with her in the ambulance and the others said they'd meet me at the hospital; I didn't want to leave my sister alone.

At the hospital y/n was taken to surgery and I was directed to a waiting room. Was I a bad brother? She felt like she had to hide this from me because she thought I'd already done too much for her. We would get through this as a family, she was all I had minus Katelynne and my daughter and I was all she had. No matter what the cost y/n was going to get the best treatment possible.

The others got to the hospital and we waited in silence for a little over three hours until a doctor entered the room and cleared his throat.

"y/n Quinn's family?"

I immediately stood up, "I'm her brother. Is she okay?"

"We were able to remove ninety percent of the tumour but she'll need Chemotherapy to kill off the remaining cancerous cells. You and only you can see her if you like."

It was a lot of information to take in at once but hopefully the Chemo would make her better eventually. I nodded and followed the doctor out of the room; over my shoulder Katelynne sent me a reassuring smile.

"Will the Chemo get rid of the cancer for good doctor?"

"Hopefully, results have been good. But she'll need to come in for checkups once her treatment is over so we can make sure the cancer hasn't come back."

I let out the breath I was holding, the doctor sounded positive that y/n would make a full recovery over time. I'd wait on her hand and foot until she was 100% fighting fit. The doctor opened the door to y/n's room and I nearly broke down seeing y/n propped up in a hospital bed with half her head bandaged and wires sticking out of her hands. She looked so weak and fragile, not the bright and bubbly sister I knew.

"Kellin?"

Her voice came out hoarse and a lump formed in my throat as I walked to her side and took her hand in mine gently as not to disturb the wires.

"Yes y/n it's me. Why didn't you tell me?"

Tears pricked my eyes as they did in hers as she shuffled in the bed, "you've done so much for me brother; you took me away from a dark place and gave me a new home. You had a tour and new music to make, I didn't want to get n your way again."

"I love you sis, I'm your older brother so it's my job to protect you and help you. Move over silly."

y/n shuffled over enough for me to lie down next to her on the bed. She sighed heavily and her eyelids fluttered as she fought back tiredness, she needs rest after the surgery.

"Kellin I'm scared. Can you stay with me? Actually no, you have a tour to continue. Stay with me until I wake up and then go and make music and fans happy."

Even after surgery she was more concerned for me and the band over her own well being. I shook my head and carefully wrapped my arm around her shoulder.

"I'm staying here with you. We only have like three shows left. Family stick together sis. Now get some sleep and when you wake up I'll still be here because I love you y/n. We're going to get through this together."

She smiled weakly and yawned, "I love you too Kellin, you're the best big brother anyone could ever ask for. I'm sorry for making Katelynne keep this from you."

"I understand y/n. Now close your eyes, you're going to need a lot of rest if you're going to get out of here."

I kissed her on her unbandaged side and she soon shut her eyes, Quinn's stuck together and cancer wasn't going to beat us.
