George woke the two up saying that a massive storm was about to hit Liverpool.
"Are you bloody kidding me?" Paul asked irritated since it was 5:30 in the morning.
"Nope. Huge showers and massive winds are coming through in a few hours." George explained.
"I guess we'll stay in the basement today and tonight." Liz said.
"Do...do we have to go in the basement?" Paul asked in a shaky voice.
"Paul..."
Paul shook his head quickly. "I-I don't wanna go down there." Paul said again starting to breathe quickly.
Liz thought he was gonna have another asthma attack.
"Shhh. It's alright. It's alright." Liz whispered as she rubbed his back and tried to slow his breathing.
"I-I don't wanna go down there." Paul said nervously.
"Ah...George? Could we hurry to your house and stay there for today and tonight?" Liz asked.
George nodded, "Of course."
They grabbed a few things, Paul made sure to get the journal. The three hurried to George's and got settled in. Liz had to admit she missed that smell of cigarettes and flowers at George's house. They all got settled in the basement.
Paul, now away from Liz's house, was in a much better spirit.
"Let's make a fort!" Paul squealed.
"A fort?" Liz asked unamused.
"Yea!" George agreed.
"You two are just a couple of little boys, aren't ya?" Liz chuckled.
Liz watched now amused at the lads' attempt to build something out of the chairs and blankets.
After a good half hour of that Paul shouted, "We're done!"
Liz laughed.
"C'mere, Love." Paul said lying next to George under the fort.
Liz did laughing and managed to get next to them. She tumbled over on George. The two looked at each other for a moment before coming into reality again. Liz quickly got off and blushed.
"Wanna listen to some records?" George offered.
"Who do ya have?" Paul asked.
"Elvis mainly and a few other random people that John smuggled from the shop." George smiled, remembering the days when he and John used to go to the record shop.
"Uh can-can we listen to one John took?" Paul asked, wanting to here his friend's choice.
George nodded and pulled out a Buddy Holly 45.
"One of Johnny's favorites." Paul smiled.
Liz gave him a kiss on the cheek to wake Paul up before he started remembering more about John.
Paul and George hummed the tune that was unfamiliar to Lizzy.
A sudden knock came at the door.
"I'll get it." Paul said as he went up stairs.
He opened the door and let the freezing air in. There was a girl about his age, holding a camera.
"Can I help you?" Paul asked hoping she would say yes.
"I-I was supposed to be taken to the airport after a photo shoot but my flight's been cancelled and I don't have enough money to last the next few days and...I've been going door to door asking if I could stay with someone and-" The girl explained concerned.
"Come in, Sweetie. You must be frozen." She thanked him and came in.
"I'm Linda." She said and shook hands with Paul.
"I'm Paul." He said happily.
"Paul-love! Who is it?" Liz called out.
"Oh...you have a girlfriend." Linda said in a disappointed voice.
"Well yea...but...it's on and off." Paul said, wanting to spend more time with Linda.
"Who is this?" Liz asked.
"Liz, this is Linda. Linda, this is Liz." Paul introduced them.
"Nice to meet you." Liz said, not too happy with another girl here.
"Uh, Lizzy. Linda's flight has been cancelled and she can't afford to be by herself for the next few days. Do you think George will let her stay?" Paul asked.
"I'm sure he will but get him up here first." Liz said. "George!"
He came upstairs. "What's u- Who's this?" George asked confused.
"Her names Linda. Her flight's been cancelled and she can't afford to be alone the next few days so we were wondering if she could stay here." Li explained.
"Of course. Seems like a nice bird." George agreed.
"Oh thank you!" She said and hugged Paul.
George cleared his throat, "um...my house."
"Oh right." Linda blushed and hugged George.
"Quit it!" Liz whispered to Paul.
"What?" Paul asked.
"Lookin at that Linda bird." Liz punched him gently.
"Alright, don't get all jealous." Paul joked and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"I'm not jealous!" Liz shouted.
"Mhmm." Paul smirked.
"I'm not!" Liz whined.
"I'm just joking, Love." Paul said and kissed her on the lips. "I love you."
"Love you too." Liz replied.
The four went to the basement and relaxed.
"So you're a photographer?" Paul asked intrigued.
She nodded. "I love capturing those happy moments." She said as she smiled at Paul.
Liz gave Paul a quick kiss to assure Linda that Paul was hers.
It was getting dark and the four ate dinner. They returned to the basement and listened to some records. Linda and Paul were talking and George asked if he could talk to her.
"Lizzy? Can you come here?" George asked, bringing her to underneath the staircase.
"What's wrong?" Liz asked hearing his shaky voice.
"I just...I just realized I really need to spend more time with you." George explained, tears coming to his eyes.
Lizzy wiped them away. "Of course we can spend more time together. Maybe we could even get back together if Paul falls for Linda." Liz joked.
But George didn't seem to find it funny.
"Lizzy. I need you to come back now." George pleaded as more tears fell.
"George what's gotten into you?" Liz asked.
George looked at Liz and pulled her close.
"George?!" Liz shouted.
"Y'know how I went for that annual doctor's appointment yesterday?" George asked.
Liz nodded.
"Well I told them I've been having some problems breathing and stuff..."
"And?" Liz asked.
"Liz. I-I....I have cancer." George admitted as he fell into Liz.
Liz was so taken back.
"George..." Liz murmured as she began to cry as well.
"There's not much I can really do, Liz. I-I've done it to myself. Damn cigs." He blamed himself.
"You won't be effected that much for now, will you?" Liz asked desperately.
"Not too much. The hospital offered to do some surgeries and all that." George said.
"Are you going to?" Liz asked.
"That's what I wanted to ask you. I mean- of course I want what'll help me the most but I'm terrified of surgeries." George admitted, holding onto Liz's hand.
"Don't worry, Love. I'll do whatever I can to help you. And...I think you should go through with the surgery." Liz said.
George looked at her with fear in his eyes.
"Liz..."
"It's the most likely to help isn't it?" Liz asked.
George nodded.
"Do you wanna tell Paul?" Liz asked.
George nodded after thinking about it.
The two walked to the basement, hand in hand. Linda had been taking pictures of Paul.
"Paul?" Liz murmured.
Paul got up from the couch, seeing tears in Liz's and George's eyes.
"What's happened?" Paul asked, hurrying to Liz.
He wrapped his arms around Liz and put his fingers through her hair.
"What's happened?" He whispered, seeing George who had taken a seat at the table.
"It's George..." Liz muttered.
"What's wrong with George? Is he cutting again?" Paul asked.
"No, it's not that." Liz replied.
"Then what's the matter?"
"George...he has..." Liz began to say
Paul walked Liz to the table where George was. He sat down and had Liz sit on his lap, their chested facing each other.
"George, what's happened?" Paul asked, desperate to know.
"Paul, I-I have lung cancer."
Paul looked at him in shock. He closed his eyes and buried his head in Liz's chest.
"It can't be happening again." Paul cried.
