The death of a loved one is never easy, especially if your head has the need to torture you from time to time.

Boromir's fingers slid on your skin, the gentle touch sending shivers through your body.
"I wish this moment would never end." His breath fanned over your ear as he whispered the words, hands sliding on your skin, sliding against your hip to tuck you closer. You lay partly on top of him, feeling the slow rise and fall of his chest, hearing the steady heartbeat. Everything is so serene and calm, just the gentle murmur of wind against the stems of the flowers breaks the air with the occasional verse of birdsong as one flies over the two of you. It seems like the world has stopped exciting, that only the two of you are left. It's calm and still, and you release a soft sigh.

His fingers pluck a few flowers off the ground, sliding them into your hair, making you giggle as one of them slips free and lands on your forehead. Boromir smiles, correcting the flower, tucking it back into your hair, and sliding his thumb on your cheek.
"You are so beautiful." Even after all these years, you can't help the blush that rises onto your face. You hide your face under his chin, trying to hide the color of your cheeks from him. But Boromir knows you too well. He grasps your chin, tucking it out of from under his, and guides your lips to his.

The first kiss is gentle as you allow yourself to relax into it. His lips press onto yours gently, the stubble on his jaw just gently grazing yours. You immerse yourself in the kiss, enjoying the tranquility and calm that spreads through your body as his lips play on yours. As the two of you pull apart, your eyes meet and immediately dive in for another kiss. This one gathers more heat, and his lips delve deeper into yours, his tongue brushing your lips gently. You can feel the stubble scratching your skin, but you don't care as you rest your hands on his shoulder, your fingers delving into the fabric of his shirt. His fingertips dig gently into your sides, tugging you closer.

The world seems to hold only the two of you as he tilts you to rest on top of his chest, his eyes gazing deeply into yours. They are filled with so much love that a small tear of happiness slides down your cheek, and he wipes it away, the callouses of his fingers sliding across your skin, the feeling pleasant and calming.
"I love you. I love you so much, my darling. I will never leave y-"

Next thing you know, you are in your bed. It's cold and dark, and you are alone. You can still feel the tear that had dropped down your cheek as you had been dreaming, the pathway still damps from where it slid down.

Everything that had happened in the past few days flooded back into your mind. His death. Holding him as he fought for breath. Begging him to stay. Running your hands through his hair, ignoring the blood staining them. Seeing his eyes close for the last time. Crying out in anguish, begging for him to come back. The reality settling in, the reality that you were now alone, the pain piercing your heart like a dagger. Crying so much that your whole body ached, your head was hurting and your face was red and splotchy, your eyes were swollen.

Your fingers curled into your pillow, holding it close. You squeezed your eyes shut tighter, refusing to open them, holding on to the last remnants of the dream. The warm touch lingered on your skin, almost torturous as you were starting to return to reality. The reality where he was gone. You felt the first tears sliding down your cheeks, but you still held onto the small part of you that was somehow still engrossed in the dream. The part that was still laying on that field, flowers in her hair, and his laugh in her ear. The smell of poppies filled the air, the soft breeze brushing her cheeks as a kiss was pressed there. The flowers around them swayed in the gentle breeze, the clouds in the sky sliding softly against the yellowing sky as the sun was slowly sliding into hiding behind the horizon.

But the dream didn't dwindle much longer, and you were left with an empty feeling in your chest as it slipped away. You tried fighting it, tried to keep the feeling of safety and love, but they were gone in a heartbeat. The cold and harsh reality was that he was gone, no matter how many dreams you had or how much you wished. He was not here, and the pain was increasing with every breath you took. You squeezed your pillow tighter, feeling the tears on your cheeks again. You opened your eyes, and let out a choked sob when you saw the empty space beside you, the sheets untouched and cold.

It had been a dream. Of course. A part of you had always known, a part that had tried to chase the dream away, so you wouldn't have to go through it again. But the part hadn't been strong enough, it couldn't win against the heartbreak you already had. The dream had won and you had allowed being covered into a veil of unawareness for the night, the dream welling around you. But now, you had to face the consequences of the small sliver of happiness you had allowed yourself to be emerged in.

Do you like it when I post these angsty ones every once in a while or are you the kind of person that skips angst all together (like me)?

When I started this, I had no idea who I was writing it about, but as more words appeared, it became clear to me that it was Boromir. I continue to live in denial (death, what death??) and probably won't write angst again in a while. We'll see how the ideas come.
