When you catch feelings for the march warden of Lothlorien, your father has to face the fact that you are no longer his little princess.

The feast was in full swing, elves conversing and dancing to the music, eating or drinking, or just enjoying the view. You were standing next to your older sister Arwen, talking with some of the elves from Lothlorien. Lady Galadriel had organized a feast in celebration as he and Celeborn had been married for yet another millennia.

You took part in the conversation every now and then but stayed mostly quiet. But when most of the elleths around you started to giggle, you perked up, not having the faintest idea what they were giggling about. It soon became clear to you as you felt a hand touch your shoulder, and you turned around to face the grey eyes of Haldir. You hoped your face wasn't as red as it felt as you smiled at him, trying to ignore the giggles around you.
"My lady, may I have this dance?"
"Me? Oh, y-yes. Of course." You wanted to die on your feet right there for stuttering and probably making yourself look like a fool.

However, Haldir didn't seem phased when he ordered you to his arm and you slipped your through it, hoping that he couldn't tell how much you were shaking. He greeted elves as he walked past the crowd, receiving smiles and polite words in return. You spent most of the way to the dance floor calming yourself down and reassuring yourself that this was just a dance, nothing more.

When you finally reached the dance floor, you had made yourself a nervous wreck by trying to decipher if Haldir was just being friendly, or was he following his duty as the march warden, or was he actually interested in you. You had had conversations with him before, and you had enjoyed his company. He was an Ellon of few words most of the time, but you had had interesting conversations with him in the past.

Haldir was a skilled dancer, he led you around the floor without a single misstep and you felt yourself slowly relax. You spotted your father in the crowd, having a conversation with Celeborn, and you gave him a smile, which he returned somewhat stiffly. You frowned slightly but decided not to dwell on it and just enjoy the dance.

When the song ended, you and Haldir stepped apart from each other. You smiled at him and looked around.
"Would you mind walking with me? I'd like to spend a moment somewhere quieter." He nodded and offered you his arm again, which you took happily. He led you along the hallways of Lothlorien, introducing the places you walked past.

Elrond was not happy when he saw you leaving with Haldir. Elrond just didn't want you to fall in love just yet. You were his little girl, his little princess. He didn't want you to grow up. Elladan and Elrohir were hunting orcs around Arda, and Arwen was so grown up. Elrond wished that you would remain with him a little longer.

You settled onto a small balcony slightly away from the feast, standing side by side as you listened to the music that drifted from the feast to your ears.

The sun was setting and Haldir noticed you shiver, so he took off his jacket and placed it on your shoulders. You blushed and thanked him, shifting slightly closer so you could warm yourself from the body get that was radiating from him. He looked slightly surprised when you shifted closer, but gave you one of his small smiles.

You stood still for a while, enjoying the evening and the quiet when you felt something encase your fingers in warmth. You glanced down and noticed Haldir's hand in yours. When you lifted your eyes up again, you noticed his grey ones staring into yours. When you saw the nervousness in them, you smiled and squeezed his hand gently, reassuring him.

You shifted even closer to him so you were standing directly beside him. You could feel his breath in your hair and you smiled softly, stepping even closer to him shifting slightly so you were now slightly facing him. His grey eyes studied your face, and he leaned forward, his breath now tickling your lips. You leaned forward, connecting your lips to his. A warmth spread through your whole body, starting from your head and spreading through your body all the way to your toes. You smiled into the kiss, stepping a small step closer to him, allowing him to sneak his arms around your waist.

The kiss was as long as you could make it, both of you pulled away at the last second, panting for breath but smiling at each other. You let out a giggle and pressed your lips to his again, letting your hands rest against his chest. His arms found your waist again, and they pulled you tightly against him.
"Y/n, are you- OH." Your father had entered but was frozen still as he saw you in the embrace of the march warden.
"Adar! (father) What are you doing here?" You stepped back from Haldir, blushing, brushing your hair behind your ear.
"I was... I needed... I want to talk to you." The tone of your father made you shiver. It sounded so empty. You had never heard him like that. After your father walked out of the room, you and Haldir stood there, looking at each other.
"I. I better go... And talk to him." You mumbled but tried to smile at him, grabbing his hand and squeezing it with reassurance.

"Ada. Ada, wait." You nearly jogged after him, trying to talk to him while holding unshed tears.
"There is nothing to talk about." He spoke over his shoulder.
"Is that why you're running away from me?"
"No."
"Then why?" You cried out, the tears making their way out of your eyes, and you sniffed. This made your father's pace drop to a walk, and you caught up with him, grabbing his hand and stopping him from moving.
"D-Do you not approve of us? Me and Haldir?" Another set of tears fell. You were afraid of the answer. You loved Haldir, but if your father didn't approve. You wouldn't know what to do.
"I do. Of course, I do. He's an honorable Ellon, I know he will treat you right." You sniffed and lifted your hand to turn his face to yours. Your heart pained when you saw the expression he had.
"Why are you behaving like this, then? It hurts me to see you so distressed and I want to help." Tears dropped, and your father wiped them away.
"You're my little girl. I don't want you to go." He took in a shaky breath and continued with a strained voice.
"You are my little flower, my sunshine, my angel. But now you have Haldir. You aren't my little flower anymore. How can I let you go?" You smiled through your tears as you wiped away the single tear that had fallen on his cheek.
"Ada. I will always be your little girl." You promised, hugging him tightly. And it was true. Even if you loved Haldir, he was still your father. He was the one that had checked under your bed for balrogs after you had been too scared to sleep*. He had been the one to teach you how to shoot a bow. He had taught you all the medical plants and how to use them. He had been your shoulder to cry on when your mother had passed, even if his heart had been broken too. You would never stop being his little flower.

You and Elrond entered the feast hall again, and Haldir walked to you briskly, noticing the tears on your face. His grey eyes were filled with concern as he took in the tear stains.
"Everything alright?" He asked, and you nodded and he pulled you into an embrace. You buried your face into his neck and breathed in the calming scent. When he pulled back, he still kept his arm around you and you at his side. His eyes met your father's, and he gave a respectful bow to the elf lord.
"My lord." Elrond nodded, glancing at you.
"Take good care of my daughter."
"Gwestaon. (I swear)" He then took your hand and led you away, pulling a smile from your lips that reached all the way to your still slightly red eyes. Elrond smiled. At least now there was hope for grandchildren.

Wow, I'm on a roll. Two oneshots in one day? Hopefully, I will keep this up, because I haven't been active and it bothers me deeply.

* I will write a oneshot inspired by this. Stay tuned.
