You cannot help but be slightly amused at how protective Haldir is of your pregnant self.

The fellowship had just arrived in Lothlorien after losing Gandalf, and most of them were in shock. Especially the hobbits were huddled into a tight group, glancing around them with wide eyes, still slightly red from crying. Aragorn and Boromir were both on alert, even if nothing got past the borders of Lothlorien. And Gimli was his grumpy self, muttering about elves and how their cities were too bright as he walked next to Legolas.

Legolas, on the other hand, is looking around him, trying to spot you. You have been friends since childhood, as you were the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. The two of you often played together while your parents held meetings that the two of you were not invited to. You had been writing to each other since childhood, and despite your parent's suspicions and hopes, had always remained just friends. Legolas had been thrilled to hear of your engagement to Halrid and had attended the wedding, of course.

It didn't take long for you to appear but your appearance was a suprise to Legolas. Your stomach was slightly rounded, it wasn't huge but it was clear that you were expecting your first child. When you noticed Legolas staring, you let out a laugh and ran to him, jumping to his neck as both of you laughed.
"So good to see you, Legolas!" You giggled gently as you placed your feet on the ground, your hand coming to rest instinctively on your stomach. Legolas stared at you with happy eyes, he was beyond thrilled for you and Haldir.
"You are glowing, Y/N! Why haven't you written to me about this?" He asked you, and to his suprise, you laughed.
"Haldir didn't want me to, he said that the letter could get into the wrong hands and someone might come looking for me. Which is ridiculous, I haven't left the kingdom since we found out I am with child, also after Haldir's insistence. He seems to think that even if I sneeze wrong I might break." Legolas looked around but couldn't spot the march warden anywhere. He was probably still out on his duties.

You yawned as you rubbed your belly, and Legolas gave you a smile.
"How far along are you?" Giving your stomach a loving smile, you lifted your eyes, shining with happiness, to Legolas.
"Eight months." Legolas nodded, glancing around as he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Gimli was looking extremely lost, so after giving you a short glance and receiving a nod, he called the dwarf over. He approached, giving you a once-over, no doubt noticing your stomach.
"Gimli, this is one of my oldest friends, Y/N. She is the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. Y/N, this is Gimli, son of Gloin, who has been traveling with us on our journey. You smiled at the dwarf, extending a hand for him to shake. But, to your great suprise, he didn't shake it but he pressed a kiss onto your knuckles, making you flush slightly.
"My pleasure." Whoever said dwarves were ill-mannered had been wrong.

When Gimli leaned back you heard a huff behind you and knew who it was without looking, a wide smile spreading on your lips. Haldir was very particular about who he allowed close to you while you were pregnant and a dwarf was definitely one of them.
"I am not going to break if someone touches me, Haldir." You turned around to face your husband, who walked next to you and slid a hand around you, pulling you to his side tightly, pressing a kiss to your temple.
"I know. But you should be resting." You rolled your eyes and turned your head to look your husband in the eyes. His light irises were slightly tinted with worry, even if you were in perfect health and perfectly fine.
"I have been resting all day, I don't think a short walk will do the baby any harm. I am fine." Contradictory to your statement, you let out a huge yawn and Haldir gave you a small smile.
"We can go for a walk tomorrow. I think rest would be the best right now." You nodded, not wanting to argue with him. The baby had kicked you a lot last night, keeping you up, so rest was probably for the best.

You bid goodbye to Legolas and Gimli and walked to the stairs that led to your bathroom. You looked up at them and sighed. Your ankles were sore and your back was stiff,  but you couldn't rest until you walked up. At least you thought so until Haldir swept you off your feet, picked you up bridal style, and started carrying you up the stairs, despite your protests, which he pretended not to hear. So you surrendered to your faith and allowed yourself to be carried upstairs, resting your head on his chest, listening to his calming heartbeat.

When you reached your chambers, he set you down gently, and you kissed his cheek.
"You didn't have to do that." He smiled in response and helped you out of your gown, and into your nightdress.
"Of course, I had to. You are my wife." He kissed your lips gently, it was barely a graze but it still sent a warm wave through you.
"I would get the moon for you if you wished." You gave him a sleepy smile, climbing onto the bed and slipping under the covers. He walked to help you straighten them, and he pressed another soft kiss to your lips.
"You aren't staying?" You mumbled, already half-asleep, a slight disappointed edge in your voice that made Haldir's heart clench.
"I will return soon, I have a few duties to finish before I can join you." With a last kiss to your forehead, he snuck out of the room and closed it softly, as you were already asleep when he exited the room. He then hurried to finish his duties so he could return as he had promised you.
