The events in this story take place beside the War of the Rings and in its aftermath. Millenia ago the handmaiden Ilmarë brought a gift to the world of men and foretold of its heiress. And of great need among all races after the darkest of times. Shipwrecked on a small island, Éomer vows protection for a stranger. Neither speaks the other's language. When a dark army invades, they flee to the safety of his principality in Aldburg. But enemies hunt them. Unraveling why sends them on a journey to the southlands, to Gondor, to Elven domains, and to the ravaged northern country.

As the Fellowship breaks apart, a shadow seems to arise in their presence. Someone, or something, keeps following them as Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli track the Uruk Hai who took their friends. Even with his eyesight, Legolas can not tell if the shadow is real or a part of the looming war. Deep in Rohan, a woman questions her heritage, then turns it into her greatest asset. With the companionship of Eomer and the other Rohirrim, she sets out on what she initially thought was an exile until she stumbled upon a group tracking their latest victims. She doesn't want to help them because they are strangers, and she's seen what happened to Rohan. But something in her blood encourages her to act as a guide. At least for the time being. Long after the great battle against The dark Lord Sauron and Isildur's death, the ring has been kept safely in the Shire under the care of Bilbo Baggins. Peace had taken over the land. but it was all just a vale hiding the growing forces in Mordor. The ring lies in wait for its master. and force of unlikely companions gather together to try to keep safe this earth and destroy the ring. However, Eadlyn a girl birthed from unholy beginnings struggles with the nature of who she is and her past. Aragorn does not trust her, yet knowing his history she doesn't trust him either, the two can be a problem on this journey. both being fiercely protective of the Hobbit Frodo whom carries the weight of Middle earth survival on his shoulders.

'I'll linger here beneath the Sun,' Embracing the fact that she has become a character in The Lord of the Rings, Rowan Reed takes the quest of the Ring seriously-them winning is not guaranteed. So far, things are advancing close to the actual story: Frodo and Sam are gone for Mordor, Merry and Pippin have been taken by Uruk-hai, and Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli chase them into Rohan, only with her and Boromir tagging along. Knowing The Lord of the Rings story will change-in some aspects-because of her, certain developments still catch Rowan by surprise. The epic trilogy is coming to an end with the largest and hardest battles, but Lady Galadriel's prediction worries her the most.
