You and Legolas are forced to separate again, but this time it's different. The emotion between you is stronger, and the possibility that you will never see each other again is high.

You couldn't help it. Your eyes kept drifting to Legolas, even if you tried to stop them. You had met him before, but this time, something was different. There had always been something brewing between the two of you, something deeper than the friendship the two of you kept clinging to. You had always seen him as handsome, but you hadn't really seen him until now. The pale blue of his eyes, the neatly braided blond hair that landed on his back in perfect order. The way he carried himself, proudly, but not overly so, back straight and head held high. You didn't know how you had not seen him sooner, but you weren't about to waste another moment, that was for sure.

Only mere hours before the fellowship was deemed to depart, Legolas found you sitting alone in a deserted hallway.
"Lady Y/N." He greeted you with a small bow, and you shook your head with a smile.
"Please, just Y/N, I have never cared much for titles." You gently instructed him, and he nodded.
"Neither have I." You stood still and silent for a while, and neither of you moved. The air seemed to be still, not a sound breaking the air. It seemed the whole world was holding its breath as the two of you just watched each other, the world around you forgotten.

The silence was heavy, and neither of you could take it for long. You darted forward at the same time, your lips slotting together in a hurried kiss. It wasn't flawless, and the world didn't stop spinning, but you didn't care. His hands dug into your shoulder slightly and pulled you so close to him, his teeth brushing against your lower lip for a moment. But you didn't care, the kiss was perfect for you, the feel of his soft lips against yours, unlike anything you had ever felt.

When he pulled away slowly, you gathered the courage to place a gentle peck on his lips before you took a step back, meeting his eyes.
"We should have done that sooner." Legolas breathed out against your lips, and you nodded in breathless agreement, a giggle leaving your lips despite all. You knew he had to go, and the dread of it whirled in your chest, feeling like you were torn apart slowly, from the inside out. Tears started to gather in your eyes as the panic slowly started to settle in. He was truly leaving, on one of the most dangerous missions Arda had ever seen. Legolas noticed this, and captured your hand into his, making you look into his blue eyes. A call of his name was heard from the distance, and you squeezed his hand tighter if somehow that would keep him with you even a moment longer.
"I will return." He promised you, pressing a kiss onto your hands. He pulled his hands from your hold, and the tears escaped your eyes, running down your cheeks. The imprint of his lips felt hot on your skin, even after he had slipped out of the hallway.
"You better." You whispered at his back which was slowly disappearing into the distance.

The fellowship was gathered at the gates of the kingdom, and you stood by your father's side, watching them go. You caught Legolas' eye, and he sent you a calming smile, but it did little to settle the dread in your stomach. They had gathered their weapons and as many supplies as they could carry. All the faces around you were just as glum as they slowly began walking out of the kingdom. Just before Legolas turned the corner so you couldn't see him anymore, he gave you a wink, a blush rising to your cheeks.

You never left his mind, not even when the battle was the hardest. You remained, reminding him why he had to return, why he had to keep pushing. No matter how bad it got, the image of your smile never dimmed, and it kept him going, even when things seemed the most hopeless.

Your days were spent in the library, trying to drown the dread that you felt for him. But you couldn't focus, no book was able to pull you in deep enough to distract you from the fear that was clawing at your insides. Your father had noticed the change in you, but you assured him that it was nothing to worry about, that you were just worried about the fate of the fellowship. It was partially true, you worried for them all, but Legolas was the one that was in your mind the most.

You had received a few letters from him, them arriving to you in bad shape, obviously scrawled in a hurry. He told you of what had happened, assured you that he was safe, and promised to return. He ended them with a swirly signature. You kept them in a box under your bed and sometimes when the fear got too much, you took them out and read them again and again. It brought you comfort but also made you nervous. Because as time passed, the period of time between the letters grew longer, and in the end, they stopped completely. Your father told you that the war of the Ring had started, and Aragorn's letter to him had mentioned that he, Legolas, and Gimli were on their way to Rohan. Your knees had almost buckled when you heard Legolas' name, and get the assurance you needed that he was safe.

You smiled as you re-read the last chapter of his latest letter again.
"You never leave my mind. Not even when the battle is the hardest and everything seems hopeless. You remain, reminding me why I must return, urging me to keep going, to keep pushing. No matter how horrible it gets, you are always there, and the image of your smile never dims. It's what keeps me going. I cannot wait to return to you, my spring flower."

You squeezed the paper against your chest, smiling brightly. You resisted the urge to giggle and squeal, having to remind yourself that you were not an elfling anymore. But the giddy feeling in your stomach didn't go away as you returned to your duties, the maids gossiping about the way that you smiled and who had caused it. Could it be that the princess had finally found love?

You squealed in joy when you heard that they had done it, the ring had been destroyed, and that Aragorn was about to be crowned the king of Gondor. You stormed to pack before your father could even finish the request for you to do so. You felt like you were floating, the overflowing joy that he was safe and alright filling every nook of your stomach. The journey for Gondor started immediately, and your father didn't miss the hurry you were in to get on the road or the smile that didn't seem to leave your face.

When he heard that your traveling party had arrived in Gondor, he looked around expectantly, hoping to find you in the crowd. It took him a while to spot you, but he did. You were standing just behind your father, a bright smile on your lips. Your eyes were scanning the crowd as well. You looked so beautiful, even if you were dreary from travel and your clothes were muddy.

The moment your eyes met, you both stormed forward. You met each other in the middle, as the fellowship, or what was left of it, watched. He scooped you up into his arms and spun you around wildly, holding you close by your waist. You shrieked in surprise, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, giggling wildly. Tears of joy for his return flow freely out of your eyes and down your cheeks. You probably seemed like a crazy person, but you didn't care. All you cared about at that moment was that he was back in your arms, and you would be rather caught dead than let him go again.

When your feet were on the steady ground again, you stared into his eyes for a moment, not knowing what to say. Everything you had planned to do or say didn't feel that it was enough. In the end, you pressed your lips to his, not caring that there were dozens of people watching, starting with your father. You just had to know that he was truly there, that this was real.

And it was. His lips felt so good upon yours.

Only a few requests left to go! I've started all of them, so they just need a little more work!
