The cold air that travels through the night feels amazing. The weather has been fine today. I move my head a bit as I listen to music. My eyes from time to time are set in the rearview mirror. I wonder why Lucinda is taking so.

I was going to call her but I see through in the rearview mirror her body. She looks both ways and quickly walks to my car. She is wearing a black and long shirt and jeans. I also believe that she is carrying a backpack.

"Hi," she says, almost whispering.

"Hey. Why do you have a backpack? "

"I had to lie, I said I would go to Cassie's house."

"Your braid looks good, why are you—?"

"I want something different," she shrugs and ends undo her braid.

I drive and I can see Lucy and she is pulling something out of her backpack.

"What are you doing?"

"Mom gave me a lipstick, I thought of using it."

"Why?"

"Why not?"

"It's not a big deal the thing tonight. It's at my place and it's pretty simple. "

"I know but I just wanted to look like the others, feel adapted"

"You don't need to adapt to the others girls, you need to be Lucy."

"Well, I am."

"Oh my God, what are you doing?" I nearly choked on my own saliva when Lucy unbuttons her jeans.

She looks at me embarrassed and she decodes what I'm thinking and why I'm thinking that.

"This looks like a-a shirt but it's a dress," she admits with red cheeks.

She gets rid of her jeans but she is careful so I can't see something that I shouldn't. She keeps the jeans in her backpack and then her eyes fall on her legs.

"Without braid, lipstick and a dress?" I recite surprised and sounds like a complaint. "I'm very surprised."

"I just...just wanted to be different," she murmurs and she's looking through the window.

"Did something happen?"

Lucy shakes her head but doesn't look at me anymore.

The rest of the trip is quiet. I parked at my house and just when I get out of the car is when I get to see how Lucy is looking. I must say that is torture. She is wearing a black dress that looks like a shirt and drops to her knee. Her hair falls through her back and the only makeup she has is the red lipstick. Oh and also, she is wearing converses. She certainly looks different but it's my Lucy.

I carry her backpack and intertwining our fingers. Lucy was going to walk but I pull her hand to stop her.

"You look beautiful," I smiled.

"You think so? Now I'm regretting my decision, Louis will make fun of me. "

"Of course not, forget that idiot. Don't talk to the boys if you don't want to. If you feel uncomfortable or tired you can tell me and I'll take you home. "

"Okay," she nods.

"I didn't think you would accept my invitation."

"I didn't want to be at home," she sighs.

"Why not? Did something happen? "

"It's like being alone, all the time," she shrugs. "I was unsure if I wanted to accept your invitation but it is a way to share and be together."
