you walked into your office right before the maple leafs morning practice was starting. you had some office work to do.

"good morning cosette." auston leaned on your door frame smirking.

"that's-" you started.

"ms. rentz to me. trust me i know." he finished your sentence, "why are you ms. rentz when we are the same age? why don't you call me mr. matthews?"

"don't you have practice right now?" you changed the subject.

"oh yes, but i wanted to say hello before i hopped on the ice. are you going to watch on the bench today?"

"no i have a lot of paperwork to do for the higher ups. trust me i'd rather be out there than in here, but i'm busy." you shrugged.

"fine. see you later" he paused and smirked, "ms. rentz."

you sighed as he walked away.

it was hard not to have a crush on auston matthews with the endless flirting he did with you. he was charming to say the least. not to mention he was easy on the eyes.

there was no way to get away from him as you were the trainer for the toronto maple leafs which meant traveling and all. you were always with this team.

there was no escaping auston matthews.

you had a pretty solid friendly relationship with all the boys since you were young and around their age. they would invite you out to the club with them or simply just a lunch or dinner after practice. not only did the players love you, the mothers, the fathers, and the WAGS all did. it was an honor really.

you loved your job. the blood and nastiness of it never really bother you. you were just happy to be able to do what you love and watch hockey.

you were writing records about the currently injured players and what methods you are trying to make them recover more efficiently.

there was rapid knocking on your door that knocked you out of your trance. you looked at the pounding door. you saw an extremely distressed zach hyman in all his equipment still.

you rushed towards the door and opened it.

"ms. rentz please now. auston." he breathed out.

your eyes widened, "call the ambulance zach."

you began to sprint down the halls towards the rink. once you got there you rushed on ice.

you saw the whole leafs team very stressed as they stared into the corner where freddie andersen was knelt by auston.

freddie slide to the left to allow you to get as close as you could to auston.

"he's not breathing ms. rentz." freddie said nervously.

you mumbled a curse word and started the CPR routine that you had gone to class for. CPR training and certification was one of the first things you done in your medical career.

"what happened?" you spoke into the silence as you began chest compressions.

"he fell and slammed his head into the boards. when i went over by him, he was seizing out." freddie said quietly.

you nodded and mumbled to yourself, "come on auston. you're stronger than this."

in all the silence, you heard breathing that wasn't your's. you saw that auston's chest was rising and falling independently.

you sighed in relief. the paramedics rushed onto the ice with a gurney. they got auston onto the gurney and sped off with him to the nearest hospital.

you stood up and looked back at everyone standing around the ice.

"he'll be fine." you assured quietly.

everyone nodded sadly.

you rubbed your face and saw freddie who still looked like he was in pain mentally as he stared at the grooves on the ice.

you scooted over to him. without all the adrenaline, you finally realized that their was ice beneath your feet. your knees were weak and threatening to give out.

"he will be fine fred." you whispered.

"i can't unsee that. he was having a seizure ms. rentz." he whispered back.

"i'm going to take a ride to the hospital and i'll update you guys on his condition." you announced to the group.

rasmus sandin skated you off the ice so you wouldn't wipe out.

you arrived at the hospital and of course had to show them your credentials because not just anyone can go by auston matthews.

you walked into the dark room quietly. you saw a very faint looking auston sipping on a apple juice. you couldn't help but laugh at how childish he looked.

"what are you laughing at ms. rentz?" he croaked out.

"are you drinking your juice box?" you laughed quietly.

he nodded as he sipped on the straw.

"thank you for saving my life." auston said setting his juice on the table next to him.

you sat on the chair next to his bed and held his cold hand so you could play with his fingers.

"it's my job." you shrugged.

he sat up and you looked at him in the eyes. both of you were silently gazing at each other.

he leaned in and put his hand behind your head to steady it. he kissed you. his lips were dry, but the kiss was still soft and loving. it was almost as the kiss was doing all the thanking for him.

your lips left his and you looked at him in disbelief. he laid back down into the white hospital bed sheets.

"sorry i couldn't help it." auston mumbled.

you took a deep breath, "i don't mind aus."

auston turned his head towards you. his eyes were as large as they could get.

"auston, i've liked you for a while now."

"really?"

you nodded.

auston turned his head so he could look up at the ceiling.

"you should've told me sooner cause i feel the same way." auston said looking at the ceiling as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.

"how about we go to my house and eat pasta together after you get out of this place?" you suggested looking around the dull room.

"yeah that sounds great."

"terrific."

auston turned his head towards you again and looked at you mischievously, "does this mean i get to call you cosette now?"
