"BUT YOU'RE DIFFERENT"

"In you go, they're all waiting" James sneered, pushing Alice forward.

"I don't belong here" she said bravely, not moving.

"What?"

"I don't belong here!" she shouted.

James shoved her forward, and she headed in to the tent she knew so well.

Everyone began staring.
She knew all of them.
The clowns, the strong man, the elephants.
They were never punished.
They were never hurt.
But Alice was hurt everyday.

They all started to point and stare as Alice was directed to David's office.

She was trembling.
She was still in her Hogwarts uniform and she had nothing but he wand with her.
It was lucky she had her wand.
She was going to need it.

"I found her" said James proudly, pushing her into the cramped office of David Baxter.

"Well done, son!" he exclaimed, glaring at Alice with his small beady eyes. "I'll call you when I need you"

David was a big man with a bushy beard that trapped all the stray food that missed his small mouth.

He was scary.
He towered over you as if you were a foot tall.

Alice couldn't hide behind her hair.
She couldn't hide from the man in front of her.
She had to face him with a brave face even if she was dying inside.

David took out his wand with a sickening grin.
Alice didn't even know he was a wizard.
She got physical beatings with a whip or belt.
Now, he was going to use spells.
She didn't know which was less painful.

"Do you know what we do with people who escape from the Circus?" He sneered so close to her face she could smell his rotten breath.

"No Mr. Baxter" she mumbled.

"We hurt them and then we let them die in their own time"

Alice gulped.
Taking a small step back as he looked at his wand.

"But you're different"

"What?" she asked, completely baffled.

"I've got some other people who want to see you"

He gestured a chubby, dirty and cut hand towards the door, as a group of walked in, and lead by no other than Lucius Malfoy.

Alice took a step back, trembling from head to toe.
She knew that her life would change.
Whether it was for good or bad.
Best case scenario was that she would stay at the circus for the rest of their miserable lives.
David would never kill her, the fate of the circus laid in her hands.
If she died.
The Circus died too.

"Good evening Mr. Malfoy, sir" she said quietly, eyeing the floor.

"Don't talk to me" he shouted.

"Yes sir"

"What did I just say!?"

"Don't-"

"SHUT IT!" he shouted, pulling out his wand and sending the cruciatus curse her way and she bit her lip to prevent her crying out.
And lucky for her, it worked.
She gave them no satisfaction.

The crowd walked over to David and Alice didn't look up.
She was fighting back tears.
And she didn't let them fall.

"She is not leaving!" she heard David whisper angrily.

"She's better off with the Dark Lord, she will benefit. Her talent will be put to use" replied Lucius impatiently.

"She's mine. I bought her, I keep her"

David was getting mad.
If he doesn't get his way, you'll be sorry and lucky to see the following day.

"Then where is her brother?" asked a lady with crazy black hair, rotten teeth and a hideous laugh.
She went by the name of Bellatrix Lestrange.

Alice's shot up so fast she almost broke her neck.
This is what she was waiting for.
Someone to say something.

"Why you asking me? Youre the one whos keeping him!" shouted David.
Lucius looked annoyed and Alice felt her hope bubble pop.
She was so close.
But close wasn't enough.

Even if she died today.
She needed to know where her brother was.

"I will do anything you ask" she said, walking up to them. "Just please. Please tell me where my brother is, I need to see if he's okay"

Her heart beating fast, she waited patiently for an answer.

Bellatrix had a mischievous grin, plastered to her thin face.

"Anything?" she said in a sing-song voice.

"Anything" Alice confirmed, wondering if she said the right thing.

Lucius looked at Bellatrix and noticed her grin.
He knew what she had in mind.

"Bella, no. Wait" he said calmly, a smirk appearing on his thin lips.
Bellatrix looked disappointed.
She wanted to do it know.

"Why not now?" she whined like a pathetic two-year old.

"The dark Lord must be present"

Alice was terrified.
This Dark Lord was Voldemort.
The man who had apparently come back to life.
The man who was after Harry, after he defeated him as a baby.
If he knew about her.
Something wasn't right.

"What do you want from me?" Alice asked bravely.

"Not now, mudblood!" said Bellatrix, smacking her across her pale face.

"I have a-"

"WILL YOU SHUT IT!" she screamed, taking out her wand.
Alice covered her head and fell to her knees, awaiting the pain.

"Calm" said Lucius, making her lower her wand.
Reluctantly, she put her wand away, glaring at the small girl who had risen to his feet.

Alice didn't know what to think.
Just as everything was getting better, it got worse in a heartbeat.

They talked amongst themselves, Alice wasn't listening.
She didn't want anymore devastating news.
She didn't want any pain.
She wanted to prevent it, but that wasn't possible.
She didn't have the power.

"She is staying with me, until you can get your bloody act together!" bellowed David, holding Alice by her shoulders.

"We will collect her when he's ready" said Lucius calmly, leaving with his group.

Alice stayed where she was.
She was trembling from head to toe and her heart felt as if it was going to burst out of her small chest.

David held onto her shoulder as tight as he could.
Alice couldn't see his face, but she knew that the smirk was only growing wider.

"You're coming with me"
