Dr and Mrs Sharma approached Ajay and made him sit on a pedestal.

First, as was custom, the groom was applied red tilak on the forehead by Dr Sharma. He also kissed him on the forehead as he remembered his dear friend Arjun on this auspicious day, and prayed for Arjun and Vasumati's blessings for their dear son. He took the bowl filled with the haldi and chandan paste and applied it first on his toes, then arms and then cheeks. Mrs Sharma too first kissed him on his forehead.

"Saroj ji and Inderji, I am envious of you that you get to be the parents of Ajay. For me he is as much my son as my son-in-law now. He has imbibed the best qualities of both Arjun Bhayya and Vasu Bhabhi. They must be blessing him from the heaven today." Ajay tried to control his emotions as he watched the tears flowing on Anjali Aunty's cheeks.

"Bhagyavan, control yourself. It is not good to shed tears at this auspicious time." Dr Sharma hugged his wife even though he couldn't control his own tears. Ajay wiped his tears and tried to touch both their feet but they stopped him.

"Nahi beta...Today, you are our son - in- law, we should touch and wash your feet; you can't touch our feet." Dr Sharma explained.

Anjali applied the haldi paste on his toes, arms and cheeks.

As Amrita watched their emotional exchange, her heart went out to Ajay who must be missing his parents so dearly. She just wished he would just look at her once, so that she could convey what she was feeling inside. But Ajay kept his eyes downcast all through, as Mrs Sharma applied Haldi on him.

"Ajay please look at me once" Amrita prayed inwardly and gazed into his face desperately.

And then suddenly, as if he had heard what her heart was praying for, Ajay looked up and gazed straight into Amrita's eyes; her heart skipped a beat and her breathing hitched. And she got lost, lost in that moment where there was no one but her and Ajay; there was such intense and raw need in those eyes, that she felt like running up to him then and there, to embrace him in a crushing hug. She needed to be with him, be his solace right now, just like he was her solace those 20 odd years ago when she lost her mum... when their journey began. She forgot her own pain as she watched him, and got filled with the intense need to take his pain away.

She quickly looked around to make sure everyone's attention was still on Ajay. Mrs Sharma was inviting Brijesh to come forward. Ajay's eyes narrowed as he watched her and wondered what she was up to.

She closed her eyes and blew him a soft sensual kiss. He gasped and his heart felt light as a fluff. He bit his lower lip and rolled his eyes trying so hard to control his smirk. But inwardly he thanked his lucky stars, for giving him a partner for life, who knew exactly how to make him feel better. She was relieved to see the smile on his face that reached his eyes and stayed there.

Brijesh now stood in front of his son-in-law and put tilak on his forehead.

"Brijesh Sir..."Ajay began
