Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about. ~ ~ Rumi

Amrita changed into her PJ's after a long shower. She was tossing and turning on the bed as her mind was too full of thoughts to fall asleep. She regretted inviting Ajay to the party. She thought she could handle it but alas... she hated herself for being so affected by him still. But even if she hadn't invited him, they would have met anyway. He wanted her to work with him in his plan, where as all she wanted to do was run away from here, run away from him. But she can't runaway, till her job is finished here. And she gave her word to help Ajay on his mission too.

So there's no escape now from him. She gave a soft groan and turned in her bed lying on her stomach this time. Something was pressing against her chest, and its sharp edge was cutting into her skin. She rolled over to her back again and realised it was the locket in her long chain. She pulled the chain out and opened the locket and kept staring at the two photos inside.

She clearly remembered the occasion when Ajay gifted that locket to her

She clearly remembered the occasion when Ajay gifted that locket to her. It was on her 17th birthday and she had always worn it ever since. The original silver chain broke a few years ago, but she kept it safe and got the locket transferred to the long platinum gold chain, so that it was easier to tuck it inside her clothes.

She wished to capture the innocence reflected in those old photos. How happy they were back then? Sighing, she finally got up from bed, realising that sleep was eluding her right now. It was 3 am.

She noiselessly went down to the kitchen, and started to warm up some milk to make coffee. Boiling milk in a pan always brought up memories of her past in her home town for her.

Her mind went back to the day all those years ago when she was making coffee in the middle of the night just like this.

It was her 17th birthday. She has been to the mango orchard many a times before, but it never looked as beautiful as on that day. The moment she saw her love for Ajay reflected in those beautiful brown eyes, she was lost forever. It was nearly midnight when she and Ajay slowly walked back home.

She could see the glorious moonlight but she suspected that there was a brighter glow shimmering inside her.

She felt so excited and light, as if she was floating in her own bubble. Everything around her looked somehow different, colourful. And it was a secret just between them which made it so precious. She was struggling between a strong impulse to shout to the whole world about her love, and an equally powerful urge to keep it a secret and take it to her grave.

She couldn't sleep of course. She lay awake all night, wondering when and how did she fall in love. But she couldn't put her finger on the exact moment. Perhaps it's been growing so slowly, and she was already madly in love with Ajay, before she even realised it.
