Over the next few days, Shyam took Sonali out every day, be it to movies or exhibitions, shopping malls and to dine out at his favourite restaurants. Even though Sonali was not new to the place, she enjoyed visiting all the places in Shyam's company as his good humour and witty remarks made everything so enjoyable.

She could also sense a growing unrest in him, and noticed that he became more boisterous and extra cheerful to cover it up. Then, finally the night before the hearing, Sonali insisted that they stay at home as she was too tired.

She insisted on making dinner and cooked their favourite dishes. Vijay complimented her on the Kadhai Paneer curry to be the best he had ever eaten, and finished half of it by himself.

Vijay went off to watch latest released STAR WARS movie with his friends, while Sonali and Shyam relaxed on the terrace, taking advantage of the cooler weather that night. They still couldn't see much stars in the sky, due to the smog and pollution.

"This is what I miss about US when I am here, the clean environment and starlit skies. The suburb we lived was quite far away from the CBD, and hence we had such peaceful atmosphere." Shyam sighed.

"Yes I too loved the place I lived in. It wasn't too far from the shopping centre, but still in a quiet neighbourhood." Sonali agreed.

"Aah why are we reminiscing past like retired people? Come on lets go watch some TV or cricket." Shyam turned enthusiastically towards Sonali and tried to get up.

Sonali grabbed his arm and pushed him back to sit down.

"We are not going anywhere unless you tell me what is bothering you. Why are you trying to keep me busy all the time, and trying to be cheerful? You are feeling nervous about the hearing tomorrow aren't you?" Sonali asked shrewdly.

Shyam looked at her in admiration and smiled.

"God you are so observant! Now I understand why Ajay was so impressed by you. You know, I rarely heard him talk about other girls. Those two, they had their eyes and ears just for each other. But for the first time, I heard him singing praises about you as to how mature, independent and helpful you are. I was impressed by you, even before I met you for the first time in Mukesh's apartment. And then of course when I finally saw you, I was completely bowled over." Shyam felt happy to pour out all his thoughts to her.

"Hmm... If you think that you will avoid answering my question by singing all these praises for me, you are sorely mistaken." Sonali replied sternly, but then laughed out, looking at the hurtful expression on Shyam's face.

"Sorry, I never know how to take a compliment. I just blurt out something in embarrassment when any one compliments me. Thank you.

I am not as great as you are imagining me to be. Just that my life hasn't been exactly a bed of roses, and so I had to learn a few life lessons fairly early in my life. That's all. You are no less a hero to me than Ajay. You helped Ajay and Amrita so much, and sacrificed your own happiness for their sake. Amrita always says you are the best thing that ever happened to her after Ajay, and I take it as the highest compliment." Sonali eyes shined full of admiration.
