"Come on, Anita! If the Dean catches us running late, he will give us an earful!" Vidya yelled whilst slamming the hostel entrance gate behind her. Anita laughed at her roommate and best friend, Vidya.

Anita knew Vidya hated being late. She always wondered how a lazy and careless person like herself, ended up being best friends with the ever punctual and hardworking Vidya Mehta.

She was proud of her friend, a model student and best intern in their batch. But Anita didn't envy her, or the amount of hard work she did to get to where she was. They were quite opposite regarding their looks as well. Anita was tall, willowy - but Vidya was petite and curvy with a sweet smiling face.

The girls rushed in their medical intern uniforms from their Hostel towards the Nalanda City Hospital.

"Why do you care so much about the Dean? All he cares about is ensuring that we do our roster and extra hours in the ward. He doesn't care how much knowledge we are gaining, and won't allow us to learn from the senior surgeons. If we protest, he starts lecturing us that we are indeed lucky to be interns in the most reputed hospital in the city, preferred even by so many foreign nationals blah blah blah" scorned Anita.

Vidya smiled whilst trying to catch up with Anita's long strides.

"Oh please don't start your Dean bashing anthem again. Our Dean may look proud, but he's always been kind to me and speaks nicely. It's the secretary who annoys me the most. Anyway, we just need to bear this for another six months and our internship will be over" sighed Vidya.

Anita pulled Vidya into a fake embrace and winked at her "And then you can marry your handsome fiancé right?" she teased. Vidya slapped at Anita's hands and released herself.

"Seriously! Don't you have anything else to talk about? No marriage Dear, all I want to do when I finish my studies is go back to my village, and proudly say to my Father 'I am a doctor now', and then setup my own practice there. Ajay finally agreed to marry me after all that pressure from my relatives, but he strictly said no marriage plans till my studies are completed, and I setup my practice." Vidya replied.

"You need to chill sometimes you know. Studies and career aren't the only important things in life - I mean what is the point of having a hot fiancé if you can't have any fun, huh?" Anita asked petulantly, as she sometimes found Vidya's attitude frustrating.

It was a cold and crispy morning in January, and they could see puffs of their breath while talking. They had finally left the Campus now and took a turn to reach the Hospital. Vidya found herself admiring it even after all these months.

Nalanda City Hospital: one of the best hospitals in the city with an impressive façade, with a billboard title written in big golden letters.

The large four-story building is surrounded by a wide courtyard, green trees, and a fine lawn that looked serene and inviting. Initially setup as a training facility for the Nalanda Medical university students, it now boasts of being a top of the range hospital, teeming with reputable surgeons.
