Reina: This is a new version of my Maximum Ride story.

... Does anyone still read Maximum Ride? No?

Chapter 1: No!

Iggy

My arms were trembling as I lurched forward on my legs, faltering with each step. Sweat covered my forehead, and my back was screaming in pain.

Just a few more steps, I told myself. Then this will be over, and I won't have to deal with it for a long time.

"You're almost there, Iggy," Max stated calmly. "Just a few more steps!"

I shot a look at her from behind the boxes and bags that were currently being held in my arms. "Yeah right. You're not the one who's carrying all of Nudges' shopping bags or the food."

Nudge frowned. "You're not carrying all of my bags. You're merely carrying a vast majority of them."

"What did you buy? The load is heavy!"

"Some clothing for me, weapons, some toys, extra rations, basic clothing for everyone, cooking supplies, and several jugs of water. Oh, and a cookie"

"Why?" Max asked, exasperated.

"Because I could," Nudge replied stubbornly.

I sighed and continued to move forward. The Flock had decided that we needed to travel for a bit, and because scissors cuts paper, we ended up flying to Japan (which happens to be Fang's idea, for some dumb reason). Max's mom had arranged for us to rent a place in the woods there*, so Max, Nudge and myself were sent to grab supplies. We were lucky to find stores that catered tour needs, and I needed to thank Ella and Mrs. Martinez for giving us money so that we wouldn't run out of food.

After twenty more steps, Max opened the door for me, and I was able to dump everything onto the table. I stretched back, glad to be relieved of my burden.

"Finally," I muttered.

"Where's the Flock?" Nudge frowned. "Didn't Angel and Fang say they were going to be here with Gazzy?"

"Yeah..." Max trailed off.

"Max! Help me!" A shout cut the air, and we all stared at the open door.

"Angel..." Max whispered. Without even thinking, she bolted out of the cabin with Nudge following behind, desperate to reach Angel in time. After making sure that the door was locked and that I had the key, I dashed after them.

After I began running (tripping every now and then), I heard Angel scream again.

"SAVE ME!"

I slowed my pace. That didn't sound like Angel. She had her telepathy to help her, and her voice wasn't... That deep.

That's not Angel.

"MAX! NUDGE!" I yelled, suddenly sprinting off to catch up to them. Something bad was going to happen, and if I didn't hurry, the girls may die.

"Kya!" Nudge screamed, a few meters ahead of me. I cursed and urged myself to go faster. However, I couldn't see what was in front of me, and I ended up tripping on a root.

"Oof!" I fell forwarded, scraps and bruises littering my hands and body. My foot was trapped in the root, and I struggled to get up, but I kept falling down. I was trapped. There was nothing that I could do to save my sisters.

"Iggy!" Nudge yelled.

"Let her go!" Max shouted as she grabbed someone and threw them at a tree. After hearing a satisfying thud, she grabbed an arm and snapped it in two. The assailant screamed, but a metallic thud echoed through the clearing, and I heard Nudge yell, "Max, no!"

I heard laughter, and a whizzing sound cut the air. After hearing a grunt, I heard the footsteps move away.

"Nudge! Max!" I reached out, but I knew that I couldn't reach them.

A female walked over to me and kicked me in the stomach. I gasped, grasping my side where she had kicked me. She leaned down to me and whispered, "Too late."

I attempted to punch her, but she disappeared as the whizzing sound faded away.
