I as looking up news from the past week when I read that the UK that made a new research boat for the Natural Environment Research Council to explore the polar regions. After constructing the $280 million ship, the Council had a great idea.
They were going to let the Internet name the boat.
So they had 5,000 to choose from, and said to the Internet, "Hey, vote for one!"
The winning name had ten times the amount of votes as the runner up.
So now, the $280 million polar research boat is now...
The RRS Boaty McBoatface.
I am not joking. The boat is Boaty McBoatface.
What kind of council lets people pick Boaty McBoatface? That's like asking Fire Emblem Fans to name the next hero of the game after Fates and they all pick "Sergeant McShotgun" or "Prince LeoClone." Or "Lord Cuddlybunny." Granted, the FE fans would use different names....
I hope they learn from this incident.
Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to book a trip on Boaty McBoatface.
