Clay POV.

Only 10 days had passed since I've gotten hired and George went from wanting to hate me to being my best friend in about that amount of time. Then again I technically became his best friend in that amount of time because I was his only friend, which in theory seems strange.
From the time I've known him he's been funny, smart and quite likeable, so I wonder what happened to make him so unpopular.

But I didn't want to ask him about it, although he never outright said it I could tell he didn't like talking about himself. Often we'd have quite a few conversations on random topics, the books we are reading, school projects, sometimes even the news and then he'd be able to talk for hours. However, if I ask something about him or his parents I'd usually only get 1 sentence worth of answers.

I sighed slightly as we pulled into the garage and climbed out, he'd been in the school for years and he knew a lot about Techno and Shlatt who were quite well known 'troublemakers' as he described them.

"They spend most of their school year skipping, only really turning up every couple of days when they want something from someone or just want to start a fight. Although when they do start a fight they, although more often Shlatt, would just stand to the side and watch the chaos unfold.
It's strange they acted so nicely to us, or at least nicer than they act most of the time."

George kept rambling on and I half listened, but mainly just thought about the pair. Something about those 2 seemed off but I didn't know what, but they didn't seem like they were a problem or something that wanted to hurt George so for the most part I didn't mind them talking.
God, ever since that party I have adapted a more protective mindset and it felt both annoying but also nice.

Mr Davidson walked into the hall as we started climbing up the stairs, "why were you 2 both so late today?" He asked.
The look he gave us made it seem like he had expected us to be on a date or something, since it was quite clear that Georgie was gay, still George was oblivious to everyone knowing this and ignored his father's expression. "Clay and I had a detention for me getting the crap beaten out of me on Sunday."

The brunette's father looked over to me with a cocked eyebrow and I just nodded in agreement, "what he said."
Clearly Mr Davidson wanted more of an explanation as to why we were both in detention but seemed content to wait until dinner.

Once I'd dumped my stuff in my bedroom George asked me to come to his so I knocked on his door and waited for him to open it.
"Stop knocking on the door, you can just come in." George instructed as he opened the door.
He's told me that at least a dozen times but still I preferred to knock, it felt weird barging into his personal space.

He and I walked over to his bed and sat down, a foot or so apart but it still felt shockingly close. "What did you want to talk to me about?"

Mr Davidson POV.

I sat at the dining room table waiting patiently for dinner, we usually served our food up at 6pm sharp, but George and Clay weren't down here to eat yet. Ashley sat opposite me sipping on her glass of water, both she and I were thinking about the same thing, although neither of us knew that. We were both thinking about George.

Our son was currently up in his room with Clay, and we were both overjoyed that the 2 seemed to be getting along. Despite one being hired to hang out with and protect the other it seemed they considered eachother as friends over boss and worker.

Part of the reason I had chosen to hire Clay in the first place despite his lack of experience was because I figured George could use someone his age to spend time with. Even if it was forceful at first I could tell they both wanted to spend time together now. As friends.

My wife had noticed this too, and instantly started treating the blond as a family friend, such as inviting him to dinner and breakfast several times this week, unlike most of our other servants.

I was pulled from my thoughts as the pair came hurrying down the stairs, and stood at the end of the table looking both excited and apologetic. "Sorry we are late, we didn't realise it was 6 yet." The blond spoke for the pair.
They both sat down beside eachother with just one empty seat between them and our butler, realising that George and Clay had arrived, went to go get food for everyone.

A large slice of lasagna was placed in front of all of us and we began digging in. I finished my mouthful and wiped my mouth with a napkin, feeling the sauce on my face. "So, why did you two end up with a detention again?" I asked the boys.
Ashley dropped her cutlery onto her plate sending a loud clatter throughout the room, "you two had detention?"

George nodded at his mother in confirmation before speaking, "yeah. On Sunday I went into town after Clay left and ran into some bullies from school. The pair chased me and began to beat me up but fortunately Clay was nearby and managed to help before I needed to go to the hospital."
"Yes, we know that part." I confirmed, reminiscing about the blond coming home at 10 in the morning carrying George's bruised body in his arms. I took another bite of my food than realised they had not continued talking. "Go on." I urged.

Clay nodded and took over, "Well our principal Mrs Williams heard about the fight and one that happened involving including the same bullies from a party last Friday and she called us to her office this morning. And knowing how fair teachers and staff are every one of us ended up with at least a week's worth of after school detention."

"I could have a word to her about that now if you'd like." I said, gesturing to the phone in my pocket as Clay wrapped up his explanation. Everyone at the table knew that meant I could get her fired, and my son shook his head.
"We just have 2 days if detention left and it's one hour a day so it can't be that bad." He explained, "but Clay had a 'bigger role' in the fight and so he has next week full of after school detention too."

I saw the blond give him a sharp glare as my wife asked a question that was in my mind too. "I thought you said you both only had 2 days of detention left?"
"Well, Mrs Davidson, I do have more detention next week. However, the principal offered me a decreased detention sentence if I agreed to join the school football team."

I raised an eyebrow again, "and so, based in what Georgie said, you agreed?"
"I haven't agreed to anything, he thinks I should play." Clay said defensively, worried that he may get in trouble for signing up for school clubs instead of looking after his son.

George could be seen nodding in agreement with Clay from the corner of my eyes and so I sighed. "It's fine. And plus, George needs something to do besides reading all the time, he could sign up to be a male cheerleader, I think he'd look stunning in a dress." I joked, causing the bodyguard to laugh and my done beside him to glare angrily as his face grew red.

"Dad!" He growled, before covering his face in embarrassment.
