Adore You by Miley Cyrus
'When you say you love me
know I love you more'

6:28pm
5th August 2019

Shawn and I were now sat in a cab on our way to the restaurant which Shawn was still yet to have revealed to me.

A majority of the car ride was surrounded by comfortable silence, apart from the short exchange between us and the cab driver.

Intertwining my fingers with Shawn I could feel the heat rising from his skin as his hand shook slightly in my hold.

As I looked over at him he was intensely staring out the cab window, biting down on his bottom lip as his other hand fiddled with his chin.

"Shawn?" I asked causing him to slowly turn his head round to look at me.

"Hmm?" He hummed, still biting on his lip as I began to furrow my eyebrows at him from how pale his face looked.

"Are you feeling okay? I questioned softly as I soothed my thumb along his knuckles.

"Yeah I'm fine, why?" Shawn immediately smiled, as if to cover up any possible sign of him not being okay.

"Because you hand is shaking so bad on you look really pale" I explained.

"I'm absolutely fine, my love" Shawn smiled with a small sigh.

He then lent down towards my face before pressing his soft lips against mine. I puckered my lips into the kiss before he then pulled away and gave me a bright smile.

I returned the smile before leaning my head against Shawn's shoulder as we continued the rest of the drive.

After another twenty minutes we had eventually reached the restaurant. As the cab pulled up Shawn reached into the pocket of his black jeans for his wallet, but at the same time I quickly pulled money out of my purse.

Reaching across the seats I held the money out for the driver to take and thankfully he did before Shawn could pass any money over.

"What are you doing?" Shawn sighed from behind me.

"You've already made it pretty clear that you're paying for dinner so I'll get the cab" I replied before saying thanks to the driver and opening up the cab door.

"I wanted tonight to be completely on me" Shawn groaned as he followed my actions and also got out of the car.

"Well now it's not so let's go inside and eat because I'm starving" I smiled over at Shawn who looked a little annoyed as he walked onto the path.

He then just stood there with his hands in his pockets, his big eyes beaming green today.

"Please don't be mad at me gorgeous" I sighed as I readjusted the strap of my purse.

"I'm not mad" he shook his head.

"Then let's go in and enjoy our night" I smiled, trying to cheer him up as I held out my hand for him to take.

Eventually he cracked a smile at me as he playfully rolled his eyes. He then reached out and took my hand, a small laugh radiating off his lips.

As he wrapped his hand round mine he stepped closer to me before leaning down and pecking a quick kiss on my lips.

"Let's go in" Shawn smiled against my lips.

I nodded in agreement before he led me into the restaurant, his hand gently tightening around mine.

7:32pm

My laughing was uncontainable as Shawn sat there coughing, tears in his eyes as laughter also poured from his lips.

"Are you okay?" I barely managed to get out as I wiped at my eyes, feeling tears suddenly forming.

"I don't know" Shawn coughed a little more as he hit his hand against his chest.

He had a wide smile on his face as he joined in on laughing hysterically, trying to get rid of his scratchy cough after having a piece of food go down the wrong hole.

"I don't even get how you could choke on a piece of spaghetti" I laughed, the tears falling down my cheeks.

"Well it's not like you tried to stop me from choking" Shawn widened his eyes at me as his coughing gradually stopped.

"You're nearly twenty one years old, I would think you would know how to chew your food by now" I exclaimed as I grabbed my napkin and began wiping away my tears.

Shawn just replied with a goofy laugh as his cheeks turned a little flustered, also wiping away the tears from his eyes.

"After that I can safely say that I'm not hungry anymore" Shawn grinned like a dork as an amused look played along my face.

"Yeah, I'm full too" I smiled as I picked up my glass of wine and lifted it to my lips.

"I'm gonna order myself another beer, do you want anything?" Shawn asked and I eagerly nodded my head in reply.

"Ofcourse you do" Shawn playfully rolled his eyes as he waves his hand for a waitress to come you.

Once the waitress reached us Shawn ordered himself another beer while he ordered another bottle of red wine for the table, well more like for me.

Just as the waitress was about to leave I noticed how Shawn slipped her a piece of paper, the two of them exchanging no words or looks as he did.

Shawn then turned around to face me, a big smile across his lips as his face fell back to that pale shade of white like it did in the cab.

"What was that?" I asked, leaning my arms on the table.

"What was what?" Shawn laughed, trying to hide the nerves drowning in his voice.

"You gave the girl a note, what the hell was on it?" I asked, my voice flooding with jealousy.

"It was just a tip Elle" Shawn laughed as he grabbed ahold of my hand, intertwining our fingers across the middle of the table.

"Who gives a tip during the middle of dinner?" I rolled my eyes, not fully believing him.

"What do you think it is? My number?" Shawn narrowed his eyes a little at me, the smile fading from his lips.

"Could be, considering the amount of girls who flirt with you when we're out" I sighed and Shawn just shook his head lightly as a laugh of disbelief followed after it.

"And so many guys flirt with you when we're out but you don't see me accusing you of giving them your number" Shawn widened his eyes at me a little, letting go of my hand before folding his arms across his lap.

"Oh come on Shawn, you never tip during dinner" I rolled my eyes.

"You know what forget it, I'll go get the damn thing back" Shawn groaned before standing up.

"Don't do that" I sighed.

"No, I will because I'm not having my girlfriend think that I'm fucking passing out my number to random strangers" Shawn said bitterly, obviously pissed at me before storming off to find the waitress.

Letting out a loud sigh I lent back in my chair as I waited for Shawn to return. He was being way too overdramatic about this, it's not like I literally meant or believed that he'd do it.

A few minutes I looked up to see an annoyed Shawn walking back towards the table.

"Let's go" Shawn muttered as he picked up his coat from the back of the chair.

"What, already?" I rose my eyebrows at him.

"Yeah, I've already payed and cancelled our drinks so let's go" Shawn repeated before putting his coat on and walking towards the exit, not even waiting for me to get up.

Standing up I followed after him, dumbfounded on why we were even leaving in the first place.

"Shawn, wait!" I sighed as he walked out of the restaurant, then stopping so he could hold the door open for me.

"Why are we leaving?" I asked as he walked a few steps infront of me, it now getting a little darker outside.

He didn't answer but instead just continued his way down the path, not going anywhere in particular considering we hadn't even called for a cab.

"Shawn, please just stop walking and fucking talk to me" I said a little desperately as I pulled at his sleeve for him to stop.

And so he did. He stopped walking before turning around and letting out a deep sigh as he looked down at me. His lips were frowned as his jaw locked together tightly, his eyes screaming annoyance.

"Why did we have to leave?" I asked.

"Because you pissed me off" Shawn said honestly, dropping his shoulders.

"What did I do?" I gasped, throwing my hands up in the air in confusion.

"You thought I gave my number to another girl which practically means you don't trust me" Shawn explained, looking down at the ground before looking back up at me.

"What?" I widened my eyes at him.

"You can't honestly think that" I said, a little hurt as my lips pulled down into a frown.

"You're the one who gave me a reason to" Shawn sighed.

"Well I didn't fucking mean to" I said a little loudly, furrowing my eyebrows at him.

"Well you did, now let's get home because I really don't want to have an argument with you in the middle of the street" Shawn replied before turning around and continuing his way up the path.

I reluctantly followed behind him, silence between us being overbaring as I thought the urge to fight back at what had happened.

"You know Shawn you can't just-" I was about to continue but Shawn shut me down straight away, pulling me into an alleyway as he pushed my back against the wall.

"Would you just stop talking for one second?" Shawn snapped, taking me aback a little as I widened my eyes at him.

"I had something important to do tonight" Shawn sighed as I lifted my back off the wall.

Folding my arms across my chest I just waited for him to carry on as he dug around the pocket of his coat.

"I was going to finally ask you the one question I've been dieing to ask you" Shawn mumbled as he pulled hand out of his pocket, revealing a small black box in his palm.

Instantly I fell my my jaw drop as I gasped at what he was holding, understanding his whole plan for tonight at once.

"Oh my god Shawn-" I tried to speak but again he cut me off.

"Let me finish" Shawn sighed.

"I've been waiting to do this for two fucking years and I had this whole plan of how was I was going to do it, and that night was going to be tonight"

I held my hand across my mouth as I stared down at the closed box. I then followed my eyes up to Shawn's eyes, a spark yet hurtful look shining from them.

I could feel my heart beating rapidly as my palms fell sweaty at the thought of him wanting to propose tonight.

"But now I can't do it" Shawn whispered as he pushed the box back into his pocket.

"Why?" I frowned, just wanting to hear those four dreamy words.

"Because you've made me mad at you and I don't want to propose you when we aren't fully happy in that moment" Shawn replied honestly.

Biting down on my lip I looked away from him as I felt my eyes begin to sting slightly at the sudden tears covering them.

"I'm only telling you this because that's what the note was. It was to tell the waitress to send out the cake I was going to propose to you with" Shawn explained and instantly all I wanted to do was cry.

I felt stupid for getting jealous and I felt stupid for accusing Shawn of ever giving her his number. I felt like an absolute fucking idiot for ruining a proposal, ruining something we he was only trying to make special.

But yet I was mad at him for even telling me all this, for telling me that he was going to propose and then changing his mind. I just felt so confused about the whole situation and how an enjoyable night escalated so quickly.

"Can we go home now?"I mumbled, looking back at the street as I tried to hide my tears from Shawn.

"I'll call the cab" shawn said quietly before I then walked out of the alleyway and back onto the main path.

Spotting a bench I walked straight towards it before sitting down and staring out at the road, watching as different vehicles drove pass.

I could still feel the tears prickling my eyes as the cold air blew against my face.

"Yeah, a cab for as soon as possible please" I heard Shawn say into the phone, his voice miserable, before he then took a seat next to me.

Soon the phone call ended, creating an awkard silence to fill the space between us.

I then felt Shawn take my hand off my lap as he intertwined his fingers with mine, settling them on his thigh.

Feeling his touch on my hand I couldn't help but let the overwhelm of tears fall as they cascaded down my cheeks.

My head fell down as I looked down at my lap, trying to control and hide my tears. It was obviously no use because immediately I felt Shawn's arm wrap around before he then pulled me into his chest.

"Don't cry Elle, please don't cry" Shawn hushed, holding me tightly against his chest as I cried into his neck.

I was so upset at the thought having ruined my own proposal, upset at the fact that Shawn didn't want to propose anymore.

I held my arms against his chest as he crushed me in a tight and warn hug. He rested his head on the top of mine as my tears continued to fall down my face and onto Shawn's neck.

"Today just proved that it's wasn't the right time" Shawn whispered.

"But one day it will be, and it'll be the most magical and special day of our lives, I promise"

Lifting my head he also moved his head so we could look at eachother. Immediately his eyes softened at my face, my eyes blurry from how red and puffy they were.

"You don't need to be upset" Shawn reassured me as he moved his thumb along my cheeks to wipe away the tears.

"Whether we're engaged or not, I'm always going to be here with you and that's the only thing that matters" Shawn gave me a small smile as I tried to blink away any more tears.

I couldn't help but crack a small smile causing Shawn to smile even more. He then lent towards my face and placed small soft kisses along my cheek bone, drying all my tears with his lips.

This only made me smile even more as I stiffled a quiet a laugh at his strange affection.

"I love you so much Elle" Shawn grinned as he leaned back to look at me.

"So you're not mad at me anymore?" I  smiled, moving my hand onto the side of his face.

"I could never stay mad at you" Shawn laughed lightly.

"Jesus, I love you so much" I joined in on the laughter before leaning forward and pressing my lips passionately against his.
