"I know they were here! It's impossible they left without a trace."
Alex yelled out in frustration. This had been the 3rd warehouse they had searched to find evidence of CADMUS and what they've been up to and they've been unsuccessful so far.
"Alex, we'll find them. They're bound to mess up and forget something."
"You're right. We'll eventually find something."
Alex and Maggie continue to still look throughout the rooms to see if something had been left behind. They're close to the exit when an agent calls for them.
"Director Danvers, Detective Sawyer, we found something!"
Alex and Maggie rush to follow the woman that had called for them. They're in shock when they find a passed out wolf. Maggie goes to poke it but Alex stops her.
"They were experimenting on wolves? Why?"
Alex searches around the room, trying to find anything that would explain why the wolf was caged. Behind the cage, she spots a book with the title reading 'Experiment W.' Alex picks up and reads through some of the logs that had been written down about the wolf. The more she reads, the more she's horrified. Turns out that the wolf they were looking at was actually human.
"The wolf is a (age) woman. They've been experimenting on her for months. Torturing her when she refused to obey and they left her behind because it would take much longer to get her to be completely submissive. They were able to achieve some level of breaking her down but not at the speed that they wanted to be at."
Closing the book, Alex hands it to Maggie so she could walk closer to the cage.
"Be careful, Alex. We don't know if this is a trap."
"It'll be fine."
Poking a hand through the bars, Alex hesitates before reaching down to pet the wolf. There's no movement for a second and the next thing she knows, Maggie is dragging her away from the cage as the wolf wakes up and looked seconds aways from rising Alex's arm off.
"I told you to be careful, Alex. You could've gotten hurt."
Alex gives her a smile and stands up to again walk to the cage.
"I have you to back me up." She turns to look directly at the wolf as it continues to growl at her. "It's okay. We're not here to hurt you. If you promise to stop growling, we'll open the cage for you."
The wolf stops growling and lays back down. As promised, Alex starts to unlock the cage when Maggie stops her.
