CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE
invasion.
season six, episode five.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Billie arrived at the hospital that morning only to find that the sign at the entrance of the hospital that previously read 'Seattle Grace', now read 'Seattle Grace Mercy West' instead. She stared at it, her eyebrows furrowed, cup of coffee on her hand, until she finally remembered today was the merger, which meant the doctors from Mercy West would be arriving soon.

Her train of thought was confirmed when a speedy resident wearing bright orange scrubs ran her over on his way into the hospital.

The man crashed into her. She fell backwards on her ass and spilled her coffee all around her.

"Hey, watch it!" she yelled, looking up at the man who'd knocked her down.

The man in question—dark-skinned, blue-eyed—eyed her and quickly reached out his hand for her to take. Something in his eyes seemed to soften curiously when he was done analyzing her face.

"I'm so sorry," he mumbled. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, just—" she huffed, "—be careful, will you? This is a hospital, you could've hurt someone." Billie took a look at her spilled coffee. "And now you owe me a coffee."

The blue-eyed man raked her eyes up and down her body once more and smirked. "We can go out for coffee whenever you want."

Billie grimaced. "Never mind."

She wiped her hands together and then turned around to head into the hospital, paying no mind to the man who'd ran her over but seemed weirdly interested in her. Apparently, he seemed to have other plans, as he quickly followed her in.

"Hey, why so grumpy?" he teased. "You're not gonna tell me your name?"

"Why should I?" Billie frowned.

"I'm Jackson," he presented himself, ignoring her previous words. He reached out a hand for her to stretch as they made their way into the main hall of the hospital. "And you are...?"

Billie looked down at his hand condescendingly. "Busy. And in a hurry."

She sped up and finally lost him once she got into the elevator. There, however, she was horrified to see a swarm of Mercy West residents flooding in with her. She ran out and took the stairs instead.

"What the hell is going?" Billie exclaimed once she burst into Meredith's room.

The blonde had undergone surgery recently in order to donate a piece of her liver to her father, which meant she was now bedridden for about a month. Apparently, Alex, Izzie, John, Alicia, Cristina, Jay and Lexie had all had the same idea, as they were all seeking shelter in Meredith's patient room as well.

"I know, right?" Alicia huffed exasperatedly, as if the merger had her stressed.

"They're locusts. Comfortable locusts feeding on our surgeries," Meredith said with contempt as she watched the orange-scrubbed residents through the window.

Billie closed the door behind her and immediately took comfort in the contrasting silence. She plummeted down on a seat with little decorum. Alex watched her from afar longingly.

"One of them ran me over when I was coming in. He made me drop my coffee then flirted with me. I think his name was Jack or something." Billie rolled her eyes. Alex rolled his eyes.
