More drama. Holy shit babes, I can't believe how close we are to the end. I'm so damn hyped. Love you guys. -Rae

Panic had the city of Kunross in a death grip.

Since it was announced that Frost -- that Daija -- was a threat, the public had been begging the Mayor, the police and the heroes for even more protection. More than a curfew and more than empty promises.

Fiona's murder was the topic of every conversation, the headline of every news story. On top of the wild, nightly riots, there were daily protests for more protection. Sierra and Tony were right about downtown descending into pure chaos, and Daija was thankful that she and the rest of the team helped her and Violet get out of there as quickly and as soon as possible.

Over the next couple of days, Daija's anxiety about the gala was definitely getting the best of her. She knew something was going to happen. Her danger sense had been going crazy lately. She had been keeping herself busy by unpacking in her new room at the new apartment, and by going to base to help Simon and the others with prep.

It was the day of, and she was spending the afternoon in her bedroom, breathing in the faint scent of lavender from her diffuser to calm herself down.

Her room in the new apartment was much larger than her old one. Bigger space, bigger closet, bigger window to let in more light -- especially on bad days. The walls were a tan-ish color, and she loved it. It made the room look brighter. Her bathroom was almost the same size as the guest bathroom at Simon's place. Her favorite part of it was the deep bathtub that came with jets.

When she felt her heart rate pick up as her thoughts wandered, she recentered herself and found herself breathing a little slower.

She had warned the entire team and Valerie countless times, and everyone was on their game for the night, but she was still severely worried. They would all be connected via earpieces, therefore it'll be easy to talk to one another, regardless of the distance.

Despite her worries, this night was to celebrate Violet's success at OpalSpace. She wouldn't let anyone ruin it for her.

There was a knock at her door, and she opened her eyes, sitting up from her bed and answering. "Come in."

It opened, and in walked Adrienne. She showed her usual smile and sat beside her. "Hey. Just spoke with Hazel."

Daija felt relieved. She knew it would be horrific and shitty on her part to keep Hazel in the dark, and when she was up for countless hours trying to find a way to explain that Jamie is dangerous without revealing all of her situation, Adrienne stepped in and said she'd help out.

"What did she say?"

"Apparently, Jamie changed his mind about going to the gala around a week and a half back."

"So weird. He didn't tell me about that before we argued. I'm kind of not surprised. I do want to know why he cancelled though. Maybe putting extra time into his projects?"

Or maybe one of his projects takes place at the gala. She thought to herself.

"Don't worry," Adrienne said as she grabbed her hand. "We're all going to be keeping an eye on you three, plus Devin and his husband. Be on alert, of course, but please have fun, Daija. The Reid's really know how to throw parties. You'll know, especially next month."

She tilted her head in confusion. "What's next month?"

"...Your birthday?"

"Oh, that."

"Girl, you're turning twenty-one. I'm twenty-one right now and I'm having the time of my life. If you think we're not going all out for you, you've lost your mind."
