Count down

The doctor was fiddling with several different wires and wire ports, trying to figure out where everything went and what everything did. She was using her sonic, trying to scan for several things and scrambling about the control panel. You didn't know about the others but you couldn't help but feel a little useless.

'Two minutes and thirty seconds remaining until self destruction'

You all looked at each other, the doctor with her back still to you all. The count down was getting closer to zero and you couldn't help but notice that the doctor was finding it difficult to make any progress. And you wanted nothing but to do something, anything, to help her.

"Doctor, is there anything we can do to help?" You asked.

She didn't reply, still messing around with the controls. You looked around all the cages, knowing that there was probably no way you'd be able to even get one animal free in just over two minutes but you were going to try. You turned to Yaz who was watching the doctor closely.

"Yaz, can I have another bobby pin please" you asked.

She didn't take her eyes off the doctor as she reached her hands up to her hair and pulled out a bobby pin, letting some stray stands of hair fall down. You took it from her.

"Thanks" you muttered quickly, walking towards the closest cage.

You quickly split the pin, rummaging around the lock. You moved it around quite quickly, knowing that you didn't have much time left.

'Two minutes until self destruction'

You looked up, the announcement echoing. You looked at the animal inside the cage. It looked like some sort of green gorilla. You made eye contact with it and you knew that it understood what was going on by the sadness you could see in its eyes. You shook your head, concentrating on the lock again.

"I'm not gonna let you die like this" you whispered to the gorilla.

You rummaged around the key hole, trying to get it to open. These locks were bloody difficult to pick! But you were sure that the lock was very slowly getting looser.

"Right, I need you all to leave!" The doctor said urgently to you all.

You turned around in shock. The doctor was also turned around, looking at you all very urgently.

"What?" Ryan asked in confusion.

"Listen to me, you all need to get yourselves out of here. The portal is just through there." The doctor told you.

"Doctor-" Yaz shook her head, walking up to her girlfriend.

"Listen, this place is going to blow up in less than two minutes. I need you all safe. Go through the portal, it'll get you back to the forest, safe and away from the explosion." The doctor said.

"I'm not leaving you!" Yaz said.

"I second that!" You added.

"All of us do" Graham said.

"There's no time to argue!" The doctor shouted in frustration

'One monte and thirty seconds remaining until self destruction'

The countdown announced. You all looked around in worry. You decided to ignore the doctor and turn back towards the lock, determined to at least get one animal free. The doctor seemed even more distressed that none of you were leaving.

"Get yourselves safe!" The doctor commanded "go!"

"Doctor, I'm not leaving you" Yaz said, grabbing the doctor's hand.

The doctor squeezed her hand, looking her in the eyes.

"You need to get yourself to safety. I'll be right behind you I promise. I just need to defuse the bomb" the doctor said.

"And what if you don't do it in time" Yaz asked worriedly.

"I will" The doctor quickly replied.

"Doctor! I..I don't want to loose you" Yaz said sadly.

"You won't! But I'm not losing you either. Now go! I'll be right behind I promise" the doctor said, letting go of her hand and turning back towards the control panel.

Yaz sighed, biting her lip. She turned the doctor around and quickly pecked her on the lips.

"I love you" Yaz whispered.

"And I love you too. Now please, go!" The doctor said urgently.

'One minute remaining until self destruction'

"Go" The doctor whispered.

Yaz sighed, giving the doctor one last hug before turning and running. Ryan and Graham reluctantly followed, the doctor turning around back to the control panel.

You didn't follow however, feeling the lock getting incredibly loose. You put your ear towards it, listening closely. You fiddled with the pin, making sure not to break it. You listened carefully and you could practically feel the lock loosening and about to open. You then heard the click and your breath hitched.

You lifted your head, trying the door and hoping that it would open and you did manage to pick it. And it did. Ot opened and the gorilla practically ran out of the cave, showering you with affectionate noises from its mouth which you were sure were all good.

"Yes!" You shouted in triumph, stroking the green gorilla.

"(Y/n)!" You heard the doctor shout in shock behind you.

You turned around, smiling. She however didn't look to pleased to still see you here.

"Why are you still here?!" She asked in urgency.

"I got an animal free is that not enough explaining" you replied.

The doctor didn't exactly have enough time to reply as she turned around to the control panel. You walked up to her, watching the huge wall of wires and switches.

"If this is a control panel, can't we unlock all the cages from here?" You asked.

The doctor stared at you, wondering how she didn't think of that earlier. She turned back to the panel, scanning it. She seemed to have gotten the gist of quite a few of the controls now. She flickered quite a few switches and plugged her sonic inside one of the ports. She closed her eyes as she concentrated hard. She pressed the sonic and the familiar buzzing noise came.

You head loads of locks behind you unlock and you turned around to see animals and creatures all pouring out of their cells. You smiled at the sight.

'Thirty seconds remaining until self destruction.'

As that announcement read you and the doctor both turned to look at each other.

"I'm saying now that we've got all these animals out we ditch the bomb and leg it out of here with the animals" you said.

"I'm liking the way you're thinking" the doctor replied.

You both turned back towards the animals, smiling at them all.

"Come on you lot! We've got less than thirty seconds to get out of here! Follow me!" The doctor shouted out to all the animals.

And then our favourite part came. The running.
