We'd been sitting here for hours and nobody had said a thing to us. The longer I sat here the worse I felt.

"Something is wrong." I said to Amelia.

It had to be, it shouldn't take this long, should it?

"Nothings wrong Matt."

"What if she's dead?" That thought terrified me. She couldn't be dead. I wouldn't let her die.

"She's not dead." Amelia snapped.

I put my face in my hands. I'd never felt this bad in my life and poor Amelia was the one having to deal with me.

"Look Matt, if she was dead they would have told us okay."

I looked at her and nodded my head.

She was right of course, we would've known by now.

Everyone went silent again.

"I'm going for a walk." Meg said suddenly, standing up.

"Yes."

Brian, Jim and Becca left with her which was fine by me because I felt crowded in this room anyway.

"Did anyone call Mark?" I asked.

"Oh fuck no." Amelia said. "I'll do that now."

I watched her walk out, presumably to call Mark.

"It'll be okay." Zack said.

God I hoped so.

I ran my hand through my hair. This wait was killing me.

"We had a fight."

"Yeah, Amelia told me."

"I'm such a dick." I still couldn't believe what I'd said.

"Yeah you are."

Silence again.

I leaned back in my chair and closed my eye's, picturing Adrienne. God she was beautiful, perfect. Maybe too perfect for me? Maybe she'd be better off without me, I mean look at this mess, it was all my fault.

The door opened and I opened my eye's expecting to see Amelia or one of the other's, instead a doctor was standing there.

I stood up.

"Ah, she made it through, although it was touch and go."

I nodded.

"She had extensive injuries, some life threatening. We've done what we can. Now we wait."

"Wait, wait for what?" I wasn't sure what he was saying.

"Mr Sanders." He addressed me. "Her injuries are very severe. The next 48 hours will be critical. Do you understand?"

Oh yeah I understood, I understood perfectly.

Adrienne could die at any moment.

"She's in critical care at the moment, we'll be monitoring her closely."

"Can I see her?" I needed to see her.

"Wait ten minutes then you can go up."

He turned and walked out.

I looked at Zack.

"I'm sorry man." He said.

Sorry for what? She wasn't dead yet, he didn't have to act like she was.
