"Michael? Do you have Lilly's pacifier?"

I checked my pockets and found it.

"Here," I said and quickly handed it to her. Then I continued my conversation with my mother. I hadn't told her anything about my suspicions yet, and I wasn't going to until we actually had a positive test.

"Yeah, we're boarding the jet right now. Yes. Belgium. Then Spain, and home. And then I'll have a whole month... Yes, they're doing fine. In fact, Lilly said her first word the other day. It was 'maohaa'. What? I'm sure it means something somewhere on this planet. She's just a really intelligent baby and knows several languages already. No, I'm kidding. Okay. Say hello to everyone. Love you too. See you soon."

I turned off my phone and sat down on my regular seat, with Lilliana next to me. And our hands laced together automatically, with our fingers knitted like a zipper. We were a perfect match.

"Too bad I'm not scared to fly anymore," she whispered into my ear, followed by her thrilling, soft laughter. But even though what she insinuated was alluring enough, my brain was still circling around the fact that she might be pregnant.

"Yeah, I said, dragging the word absent-mindedly.

"Hey, you."

She shoulder bumped me with a concerned frown.

"Is everything alright? You've been so distant ever since this morning. Well, evening actually since I woke up so late."

"Yeah, I..."

"Is it Brad again?"

"Yeah..."

God, I hated to lie to her!

"What did he do this time?"

I closed my eyes and sighed just the moment we took off, and I tried hard to think about something credible. I came out blank.

"Ana?"

I already had her attention, so she didn't really need to reply. Still, she hummed a bit.

"There's this thing..."

"Yes? Are you planning a surprise?" she asked eagerly.

"Oh, it's definitely a surprise."

"Is it for our wedding?"

"Well... Hopefully not until May," I said, partially hoping she caught on to what I was talking about.

"May? That's way past the wedding. Why so late?"

"Because the surprise isn't done until then. Hopefully."

Ana frowned again.

"You're speaking in riddles, honey. What exactly is this surprise?"

She didn't take the hint. That's kind of good, I guess. That meant that I would have more time to figure out how to break the news to her.

"If I told you it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?"

"But you know I don't like surprises," she pouted and sat back in her seat staring ahead of her.

"I know, baby. You'll probably know in a couple of weeks. Maybe even a few days."

"That's a weird surprise."

I giggled a bit. She wasn't wrong, though. We were silent for a while, concentrating on our food. And even though the TV was on, I don't think either of us were really watching. But when Ana signed for the stewardess to bring her another evening snack, I stared at her instead.
