You stumbled into the principal’s office. You knew you were in for it. You’d just gotten into a fight with Niall Horan, the kid who hasn’t stopped picking on you since first grade.

“(Y/N)! Come, sit,” The principal instructed, and you followed her direction. You glanced to the right, to see Niall sitting there, too. Why did she have to have him in there to?

You laughed as you saw the bloody nose he was dealing with. He stood up, threatening to hit you for laughing, but the principal forced him back in his seat. You sat in yours, scowling.

“Kids, this fighting thing is so wrong,” The principal said.

“We’re not kids,” Niall snapped.

“Fine, teens,” The principal corrected herself. She sighed before continuing. “Hitting each other isn’t going to help anything. It’s just going to get you into more trouble.”

“He’s been picking on me since first grade! What am I supposed to do? Let him call me fat?! I don’t think so!” You interjected, your anger rising.

“(Y/N), you should have told an adult who could help you,” The principal said.

“Excuse me, but I’ve told several teachers over the years. Even my parents. Do you know what they all said? They told me to…” You couldn’t finish your sentence, you broke down into tears.

This wasn’t who you were. You weren’t one to get into fights; you weren’t one to let criticism get to you. But, you did. You were acting different, and you were starting to not like it.

“I never did anything to you! I never said anything to deserve this!” You screamed through your tears at Niall.

He said nothing, while the principal handed you a tissue. “They told me to ignore him,” You finished your sentence from before. “You can only ignore a person so much.”

The principal nodded, a knowing look growing on her face. She got up to talk to another teacher at the school, leaving you and Niall sitting alone.

“I’m sorry,” Niall said.

“What?” You asked, completely shocked.

“I’m sorry for being such a jerk. I didn’t realize how bad it was. I’m sorry,” He said. “I just…I like you, and…I didn’t know how to deal with it because I knew you’d never like me back.”

You sat there, not knowing what to think. All this time you thought he was just born an idiot. But, now you were seeing that he had a heart. It hurt to admit it, but maybe you liked him too.

You didn’t know what else to say, so you simply replied, “I like you too.”

He laughed. “Really?!”

“I think so…” You awkwardly muttered.

He sighed. “Thank Goodness! I’m sorry again.”

You smiled. “We should hang out after we get suspended.”

You both laughed. “I’d love to,” Niall agreed.

Just then the principal returned. She sighed, before flashing you two a quick smile. “Okay, we’ve decided we’re not going to suspend you guys. It looks like you two are okay now. Why don’t you get back to class?”

You and Niall nodded, before quickly dashing out of her office.

“So much for that,” Niall said.

“We can still hang out,” You suggested.

“Tonight?” Niall asked with puppy dog eyes that you instantly fell in love with.

“Sure,” You agreed, feeling as if you wouldn’t be able to wait that long.
