“Niall,” Your voice squeaked as you spoke into your phone, your hands shaking and threatening to fall loose at any second. You had picked up the phone with a strong intent to stay powerful the entire time, but you could already feel yourself falling apart as your lips quivered and you waited for Niall to respond.

“Princess!” He chirped into his phone, sounding cheerful, as always. Usually, you would be delighted to hear his happy voice, picturing his bright smiling face in your mind as he spoke to you. But, this time, you were disgusted by it. You were in such a mess that you could barely even see because your vision was blurred by tears forming, yet he was completely oblivious, clueless! Just thinking of this only upset you more and an uncontrollable sob tore through you, causing Niall to pull his phone away from his ear as the piercing sound took him by surprise. “Shaza! What was that?” He spoke with concern.

“I can’t believe you,” You spat, and before you knew it, words were flying from your lips without your permission. Your eyes narrowed and you threw your other hand in the air, stomping your feet on the ground as if Niall was there to see it. “I bet you don’t even know what I’m calling you about, do you?”

“Well, I kind of just thought you were calling out of the goodness of your heart,” He chuckled. “But I see now that’s clearly not the reason.”

“Shut up!” You growled, stumbling toward a counter in your kitchen. You felt it necessary to lean against the counter, because you needed something to stabilize yourself with, seeing as your own legs were far too shaky to rely on. “Just shut up, Niall. You are in no position to start this with me, okay? Do yourself a favor for once and shut it.”

On the other line of the phone, Niall was nothing short of shocked. You were never one to say such forceful words, and even Niall himself, was quite surprised by your tone. But he was still clueless as to just why you were so angry.

“Since you’re never going to remember, I might as well just tell you why I’m calling,” You said. “Today marks our one year anniversary, Niall. Do you remember now? Do you?!” You were shouting so loud by now, all in an attempt to cover up your violent sobs because the last thing you needed was to sound weak.

He was silent for a moment, and you used the opportunity to sniffle and place your free hand over your head, which was now aching. “I, uh, I really-” He struggled to form a sentence as everything rushed to him. He hated himself in that moment. How could he forget a day as important as this? His breath caught in his throat and suddenly he felt a strong yearning for your touch. He wanted to hold you, to kiss you, to remind you that he loved you. He wanted to wipe the tears from your eyes and promise you that he would fix his mistake.

“No, don’t even apologize to me,” You hissed into the phone, gripping it tightly to your ear as if it was the last connection you had with Niall. “Niall, I really do not want to see you anymore, okay? It’s pointless for me to try and love someone that doesn’t love me back.”

“Stop!” He screamed. “Stop it, Shaza. You know I love you, don’t ever say that again. Baby, please just stop for a minute. Just breathe, love. Think about this. We need each other. We do,” His words were tripping over themselves, and his sentences were choppy, but still full of meaning. “You know we need each other,” He croaked, weakly. Yes, now he was the weak one, and it wasn’t as great as you thought it’d be. This was what you wanted at the beginning. You wanted to be the fighting one. You wanted him to crumble, instead of crumbling, yourself. You wanted him to feel something, too. But, as you listened to him cry, you began to feel regretful. In all honesty, you knew that now you were both at fault.

“Wait,” You had cleared your throat, and your tears had subsided as you interrupted his sobs. “Can I see you? Can you come home? I want to talk to you in person.”

“Of course,” He said as he exhaled a sharp breath. “Of course. I’ll be there in a minute.”

He wasn’t joking when he said he’d be there in a minute because exactly a minute later, he was at the door, hanging his head almost shamefully. You stepped aside, and at just the sight of you, he couldn’t help himself anymore. He grabbed you by your wrists and tugged you into him, wrapping his arms around you. You felt his tears stain your own face as he ran his hands along your skin.

“We really do need each other, Niall,” You suddenly spoke, and he pulled away slightly so that he could see your face as clearly as he could through his watery eyes. “You were right. I’ve just been waiting so long to celebrate a year with you. And when I realized that you completely forgot about it, I fell apart, thinking that maybe this isn’t even worth it. But I see now. I see now that this is so obviously worth it. You’re so obviously worth it.”

“I ruined a day that should have been perfect,” He whispered, brushing his lips against the side of your face. “And I cannot apologize enough for that. But I admire you so much for forgiving me, princess. This is why I love you, because you can see past the bad and smile at the good. And I really do love you so much. You know that, right?”

“Yea, I know that,” You mumbled with a lazy smile on your face. “I don’t know why I said that earlier. Stupid of me.”

“No, you were just acting in the moment,” He assured you. And there he was again, like always, telling you that you were at no fault when you knew differently.

“If you’d let go of me for a minute,” You joked, “I could give you your present.”

“Sorry,” He immediately apologized. “But, darling, the best thing you could give me right now is a kiss.”

**Ahhh, okay! So I don’t know if you wanted it to end happily or not, but I just had to give it a happy ending haha! Can’t leave Nialler sad, now can we? I hope you liked it! :)**
