Four hours and several shouting matches later, Niall was leaving the room with a stack of paperwork in his shaky hands. You were ordered to stay behind for a word with Scott, and despite your rebellion earlier, you knew it would only do you good to obey, this once. You sent Niall a gentle smile as he stood to leave, and he looked as though he wanted to cry, but he was escorted out before anything more could happen. You watched him glance back at you several times, before the loud door shut and his face was gone. You were certain you'd never see him again. But you saved his life, and that was really all you wanted. Even if you never got the chance to speak with him again, you'd saved his precious life - and that would forever bring peace to your mind.

"Tell me what's really going on between you and him," Scott spat, as soon as everyone else had vacated the room.

"Excuse me?!" You hissed, spinning around to face his fiery eyes.

"What's he to you?" Scott asked, "You've never barged into my office with such passion for anything, until now. You had your mind set on freeing that boy and you fought endlessly until you won. Why? Why is he so significant?"

"He's my client," You replied, "It's my job to protect my client. At all costs."

"At all costs, hm?" He muttered, pushing his chair out before abruptly standing. He paused in the doorway and gave you one last lingering glare before growling, "That boy is more than a client to you, (Y/N)." And then he was gone. His words seemed to hang in the air like a cloud above your head, and you couldn't shake them from your mind. You sucked in a sharp breath and then left the room yourself, abandoning a room full of bottled up emotions.

When the night fell and silence on the ground returned, for only a short time, you found yourself crawling into your bed - which was in the building where you worked. You worked and lived in the same stale building, as did your boss. There really was no escape. A sigh rolled through you and you felt an intense wave of fatigue rinsing over you. But your eyes kept themselves open. You tried to let your obvious exhaustion overtake you, but it was as though your eyes had a different plan. They refused to shut, refused to welcome any sleep. You stared blankly at a wall, listening to the ticking of the clock.

There was silence for so long that it almost frightened you. But then you heard a noise, a noise that sent you jolting upward in your bed. Your breath caught in your throat as you heard the sound of a doorknob rattling, and you immediately pieced it all together - someone was trying to get into your office. You placed your shaky feet on the cold ground and padded to a door, letting yourself out into your office. You then stepped out into the lobby and watched a shadow through the glass of the office door. The figure moved back and forth, and then you heard a loud hiss of pain. Your fears swam away as quickly as they had come, and you bolted for the door. You fumbled with the locks on the door, almost as desperate to open it as the person behind it.

When you finally tugged the door open, the darkness of the night flooded into your office, but through it, you could make out Niall's appearance. He looked just as exhausted as you, but your eyes immediately fell to his forearm that he clutched in pain. "Come in," You hurriedly whispered, glancing behind you to ensure that your boss hadn't woken up. You quietly shut the door behind him and watched as he hobbled into your office, but you led him all the way to where your bed was.
