¢ Sammy

"Dean, can I talk to you?"

"Yeah, sure, Sammy. You know you always can."

"What are we going to do when we get back home?" I look down, fiddling with my fingers.

"Don't worry, dad probably hasn't noticed. Hell, he probably hasn't even been home yet."

"Dean, but what if he is? What are we gonna do? This was a mistake coming on this trip. We shouldn't ha-"

"Hey, Sammy!" He raises his voice to get my attention. "Look, if he is there and if he tries anything....you run up to our room as fast as you can and lock that door, understand?"

"I can't just leav-"

"I said, understood?"

"What about you?"

"I told you, I can take a beating."

"No, Dean."

"Yes, Sam. I don't care what you say, I'm not letting him get you. He isn't going to lay a single one if his fat fingers on you, okay?"

"Yes, he-"

"Promise me you'll stay in the room."

"No."

"Sammy! I need you to promise me."

I swallow the lump in my throat. "I promise, Dean."

"Why not just move in with me?"

Me and Dean jump, him swerving on the road. "Dammit, Cas! Don't do that!" Dean exclaims.

"Jesus Christ." I breathe, searching my chest for a heartbeat.

"Sorry, but move in with me." Cas repeats.

"Dude, we can't." I say.

"Why not?"

"Our dad would never let us."

"He doesn't have to know."

"Cas, that wouldn't work. He'd literally kill us. It's not worth the risk." Dean says, driving straight again.

"Dean, don't you want what's best for Sammy?"

"Of course but risking his life isn't what's best for him."

"But watching his brother get beat every day is?"

"Better than nothing."

"No, it isn't, Dean."

"He's my baby brother, Cas. I got this. Only a few more months."
