Saturday Jace went out to lunch with his father. Andrew and I took Jack to the park. We sat on a bench in the warm summer air. I leaned back and let the sun warm my body. Andrew shoved him hands in his shorts pockets. He watched Jack run around the park, playing with some of the other kids.

“Can I ask you something?” Andrew asked. He was 16 years old now. He cut his hair out of his face. He looked less like a bad boy, but was more of one now. I hated to say it, but Andrew was possibly the biggest player I knew.

“What?” I asked, turning to him. The sun was catching the color of his hair, making it seem to shine. His eyes glistened with mischief.

“How often do you and Jace—“

“Andrew, shut up!” I snapped, smacking him on the back of the head. I swear that’s all this boy thought about.

“Ok, so that wasn’t what I wanted to ask you,” He laughed.

“Spit it out,” I groaned.

“What happened to you and Jace when you were kidnapped?” He asked, his voice was quite and he looked down. No one knew what had happened to us. Since all our kidnappers were dead there was no reason for anyone to know. All they knew is we ran to the Trenton Bridge on the last night and were both shot. Oh and that I got pregnant.

“You don’t have to me, it’s just, well you’re fine almost all the time, but any mention of it and you get cold.” He said, when I didn’t answer.

“There’s never been any reason to tell anyone.” I muttered. No one knew I killed Derek. No one knew how Jake died trying to help us.

“What do you want to know?” I sighed.

“Start from the beginning.” He said. He turned towards me, flinging his legs onto my lap and leaning back.

“Well we were on our way back from Megan’s party. We went down the old paint factory road—“

“Now it’s getting juicy, what where you doing on a back road,” Andrew paused, “at niiiight,” He sang.

“You’re disgusting you know that?” I spat.

“All right, I’m sorry. Please continue.” Andrew apologized.

“So anyway this guy ran down in front of the car.” I could picture Mark so clearly, standing in the glow of the headlights. “He had a gun. I threw the car into reverse but Derek and Jake had blocked us in.” I whispered.

“Who are they?” Andrew asked. Damn. I forgot he didn’t know about them.

“Derek was Mark’s brother. Jake was one of Mr. Newman’s cronies.” I said.

“Mark has a brother?” Andrew asked, shocked.

“Had,” I muttered.

“What happened to him?” Andrew questioned.

“I shot him,” I whispered.

Andrew looked at me, shocked. “You what?”

“Derek was going to help Jace and I escaped. He had some mental problem and thought Mark’s… advances were wrong. Well he helped us out one night. Mark and Jake caught us though.—“

“I thought Jake was good?” Andrew interrupted.

“Will you shut up and listen?” I snapped. “Anyway they caught us outside. Derek pretended to be catching us. Mark caught me and I told Jace to go.—“
