Chief James POV

There they were right in front of us. My daughter just feet from me, I held back the tears that threatened to gush. She was there and soon would be back with me. The shiny new car didn’t slow at the road block. He found the one space, just big enough to squeeze through. He sped up and flew through it. My anger exploded.

The car clipped something on the way through and began to spin. It spun once and hit a police cruiser. At this point the car would usually come to a halt, but not when you had the gas to the floor. The car flipped and skidded. I watched in utter horror as it skidded across the road and fell, twenty feet, down into the river.

Izzy’s POV

I saw the hole in the forces, so did Mr. Newman. Before any of us could argue he floored it. I couldn’t help but scream, I knew this would end badly. One of the cop cars tried to back up quickly to block us it, but he only succeeded in hitting the tail light causing us to spin. It was like a horrible roller coaster. The world spun around with the car. BAM. The sound of crunching metal filled the air. We were slammed to a sudden halt for a minute before the car rolled.

I slipped of Mark’s lap and rolled with the car. The windows and windshield shattered. Tiny bits of glass showered us. The car started to skid along the road on its roof. Sparks filled the air. The roof, which I was lying on, was hot beneath my skin.

Then I felt the drop. The ground suddenly disappeared and we were plunging. I couldn’t even scream. The air was trapped in my lungs. I waited for the crunch of metal against the ground and death. A heavy splash sounded instead. We had landed in the river.

The current was quick and already was pushing us along with the car. Mr. Newman seemed to come out of his psychic trance.

“Get out,” He screamed. Jace grabbed my hand. I shrieked in agony. My hand burned. He pulled me with him anyway, out of the car window and into the river. The car began to sink quickly. Mark barely made it out before it was completely under water. Too bad he wasn’t slower.

“Don’t let them go anywhere!” Mr. Newman shrieked. Yeah, because that’s exactly what we were planning on doing, swimming away. The current was moving so fast that we had no choice but to follow it. It tore us swiftly downstream and away from the wreck. Mark and Jake grabbed us as best they could. Mr. Newman struggled to stay above water.

He looked back over his shoulder. The police force, including my father, stood at the top of the bank. They didn’t see us.

“Down,” Mr. Newman ordered. I didn’t understand until Mark and Jake pulled us under water. My lungs quickly filled with water. I choked, swallowing more water. My hand was throbbing. My lungs ached for air. My arms and legs stung as the water washed through the cuts on them. I let the pain over take me. The world went black and the sound disappeared.

“You idiots! Why didn’t you watch her? Why didn’t you make sure she was ok?” Mr. Newman was shouting at the top of his lungs. My head ached horribly. I moaned.

“Izzy,” I heard Jace’s voice. He sounded relieved. I opened my eyes slowly. We were in some sort of cabin. The roof was high and cobwebs were strung between beams. The only light came from a fireplace. I looked at Jace. His blond hair was still wet. Blood and dirt streaked across his face. There was a cut above his eye. Tiny spider web cuts ran across his cheeks and neck, probably from the glass.

“You look like shit, Jace.” I smirked, coughing. My throat burned.

“Hey, I don’t look half as bad as you. When you go under water you’re supposed to hold your breath, stupid, not breathe water.” He smile was genuine, but his eyes were still filled with concern.
