Affinity by CheshireVibes

Just saying CheshireVibes I really enjoyed reading the last 2 books you asked me to review so there’s no doubt that this one is just as good.

Cover:
I really love the details of the background behind the picture of the girl and the colour red as it is the colour that is typically associated with vampires, even though there’s a lot of red it doesn’t look like it’s too much if you get what I mean as in you haven’t overdone it, I also love her pose as well it makes her look like a badass.

Description:
Good job on explaining the main details of the story, I don’t think you would need a comma between “attractive” and “popular” as I feel there is no need for one to be there. I love your use of questions in the blurb as it exaggerates the idea of the story more and peaks interest in the reader to want to find out more about what happens.

Storyline:
A brief outline of the story is that it’s about a girl named Anastasia Turgenev who is a vampire who has not yet awaken. She is a late bloomer because of her affinity which is a term that is used to describe the feeling that a unawakened vampire feels towards a person who’s blood they are drawn to and won’t be a full vampire until they drink their affinity’s blood, for Ana that affinity is a guy named Aj and if she drinks his blood then she and her family will move to Portland and she won’t be able to finish her senior year as she won’t be able to step outside into the sunlight finishing her senior year but it’s really hard for her to resist the urges of drinking AJ’s blood. I like your use of time changed to show how the story/characters have changed and developed from different ages. I can honestly say I like the sound of this story plot also the family group chat is hilarious, I was laughing so much. I would definitely read more.

Characters:
When Ana was younger she saw no point of having human companions so her heart was cold towards them but then growing up all that changed. I like your portrayal of Ana as a vampire because when she was younger she was probably taught by her parents that humans are just food, yet when she actually experienced meeting the humans and interacting with them, all that changed. Pam is such a sweet girl, it’s obvious that she cares a lot about Ana as she promised to keep her secret and would even go as far to stop her from biting AJ and then exposing herself to the world that she’s a vampire, if anything Pam is the reason why Ana started to make human friends. AJ when he was younger is still a brat… Actually he still kinda is one, but honestly who can blame due to his dad’s bad parenting, honestly I was kinda happy when Ana threw the ball into his face when they were younger, however I think he’s actually a good guy really we just have to wait and see. I like seeing how the relationships between characters develop as well as by themselves.

Grammar/Spelling:
The only mistake I could find was in the family phone conversation where Ana’s mum had a typo in the message “how I don’t know what button to I press” however I think it’s intentional seeing as she doesn’t know how to use the phone so I don’t really count it as a mistake, but besides that I really couldn’t find any mistakes at all.

Engagement of the reader:
I think this was a really good read, it’s got it all, everything that makes a good story, I was so immersed into the story that I felt like I was actually there by how descriptive your writing is.
