Chapter 4. Let's Never Believe in My Guts

The next day—

"Marissa left for the capital early this morning."

"Already?"

The news gets delivered to me over breakfast.

I knew that she's leaving, but I didn't think it would be this fast.

My guts are telling me something.

It's too bad.

"Yes, I told you that it was going to be around morning time, but she said it was a long travel so she left at dawn."

Well, if I have to leave, I'd want to get home as quickly as possible too.

Goodbye sister-in-law.

I hum as I pick up my fork, hoping that the ones that come will leave one by one.

"Lady Evangeline said that she would go with His Grace in a few days."

That's too bad.

She's just following him wherever he goes.

"His Grace—"

"I already gave my greetings the day before. Ergel, get it for me."

"Yes."

As soon as I mention him, Charles comes into the dining room as if he has been waiting.

Right, I then pick up my fork and pick at my salad.

Who asked for you?

"I see you often lately."

"Is that so?"

"Yes, it was difficult to see you at least once a month before."

I then play with my fork.

"I'll see you more often in the future."

Charles responds, taking a sip of his soup that Ergel has put down.

Then, I break the piece of hard bread and eat it with the tomatoes and lamb soup.

I've been feeling like this for awhile, but his behavior is not aristocratic. Considering his past of being on the battlefield since he was a child, it isn't hard to understand why his unrefined traits come out sometimes.

"You don't have to—"

"No, from now on, we'll share breakfast every morning."

"I do not like that."

It's like he's trying to give me indigestion.

Even if I don't eat breakfast, I don't want to see your face every day.

"Then dinner?"

"I don't like that either."

"We should do at least one of them together."

"Why are you so intent on it?"

The words jump out of my mouth before I could stop it.

He then stands up and smiles.

"Let's just eat comfortably by ourselves."

"Is it uncomfortable to eat with me?

Are you asking because you don't know?

"Yes."

"Why?"

"...What?"

My forehead wrinkles slightly when I heard his question.
