"You wanted to see me, Lord Thranduil?" As you entered the throne room, you stopped dead in your tracks. The same dwarves from Rivendell were here. That meant that Kili was here. Your heart started pumping harder but you forced yourself to calm down, not wanting to give away that you knew them already. Thranduil had just started to trust you and you didn't want to throw all of that away.
"Ah, yes. Perfect timing, Y/N. I would like you to take a look at this sword." He handed you a glittering weapon, and you gasped, hurrying over to take it into your hands. It was a sword forged by the high elves of the west in the first age, and it was breathtaking. Orcrist, your father had said its name to be.
"So, Y/N, is it the famous Orcrist?" Thranduil tapped the handrest of his chair with his fingers, looking at you expectantly.
"I am quite sure of it," Thranduil smirked and nodded a thank you to you, and you curtseyed and backed away to stand next to Tauriel.
"Where did you find the dwarves?" You whispered to her in elvish as Thranduil started to interrogate them. You winced at his cold voice and prayed to never be in the receiving end of his hatred.
"Wondering around in the woods," Tauriel whispered back to you and you glanced behind your back. Some of them were sneaking glances at you and muttering to themselves, probably recognizing you from Rivendell. One of them was Kili, and your heart jumped in twists and circles as you noticed your ring hanging from a chain around his neck.
"Why are they staring at you?" Tauriel had noticed the glances and sent a warning look in their direction.
"I met them just before I left Rivendell." You returned your eyes to Thranduil, who was starting to become impatient as the dwarves refused to answer any of his questions.

"Take them away! Let them rot in the dungeons." Thranduil had had enough. The guards, one being Tauriel, started leading the dwarves away. As they were being led away, your eyes locked with Kili's for a while. His eyes widened as he recognized you but before he could react more, he got a sharp jab into his stomach from the guard that was leading him away. You flinched as the blow hit, and the guards started to walk away. They didn't deserve to be treated like this.

- - - -

You tiptoed down the stairs, careful not to be seen or heard. The sun was setting, and the guards had just returned from taking down the food for the dwarves. You had been stunned at the portions they were getting, it was barely enough for an elfling, let alone for a grown dwarf. This had gone on since they had arrived, and this was the first night that you could sneak down as the guards had been assigned somewhere else. So, you were returning the favor Kili had done for you. You were carrying a basket full of food, as much as you had been able to sneak out of the kitchens without getting caught.

You peeked around a corner to check that there weren't any guards, and the hallway was deserted, mostly because of the celebration going on upstairs. You had attended for a while but as you were so used to moonlight after living in Rivendell for centuries, the allure wore off pretty quickly. You were still wearing the dress you had on at the party, but you didn't care.

You walked into the dimly lit hallway, looking around in the cells. Most of the dwarves were already asleep or right at the brink of it. You sneaked around quietly, not wanting to wake them up, and placed the extra food on the cell floors quietly.
"Y/N!" The shout made you jump and turn around, and you saw Kili standing next to his cell's door.
"Shhh! Do you want the whole kingdom to hear?" You hissed, and he placed a hand on his mouth, looking a bit shameful.
"Sorry." He muttered, causing you to smile.
"What are you doing here?" He asked with a quieter voice, and I smirked and took the basket from behind my back.
"Returning the favor, of course." Kili's eyes brightened as he saw the basket but he seemed a little hesitant.
"You really didn't have to."
"Of course I had to. I don't like to be in anyone's debt. And I wanted to see you again." You spoke the last sentence in a whisper, but Kili heard you still.
"R-really?" You felt a smile tug at your lips.
"Really. Do you think that I left that ring there for nothing?" Kili didn't know how to respond to that, so he stayed quiet and you let out a small laugh and his cheeks got a reddened tint.
"What?" He asked, and you leaned closer to the bars.
"You're cute when flustered." You giggled, and he smiled too.
"Really? Well, you're cute all the time." He remarked, and it was your turn to blush. No one had ever been this forward with you, it was refreshing. Elves were all about asking permission and quiet glances and gentle touches with whispered words.

You leaned your head against the bars of his cell, and he stopped smiling.
"What is it?" He asked you, and you looked to him.
"I just miss home. I think I was too hasty to leave like that. I'm sure I would have been able to be a blacksmith in Rivendell too." You sighed, and Kili reached a hand and placed it atop your much smaller one that was resting on the floor.
"Then you go back and talk with your father." He told you, looking at you with his chocolate brown eyes and you relaxed.
"I could. But I've grown to enjoy this freedom, not being a princess that is expected to behave a certain way. Here I can just be ... me." You spoke and Kili smiled lightly.
"I understand. It's hard to be a Durin sometimes, especially when Thorin expects so much from me. I actually fear what he will say about ... all this." He gestures to you, and you tilt your head, confused.

"What do you mean, Kili?" A small smile tugs at his lips as he hears you speak his name, and you lift your eyes to meet his.
"I think I love you, Y/N." He whispers, and you let out a small gasp, turning cherry red. It's your turn to stutter.
"R-really?"
"Yes. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met, and I just..." Kili is struggling to find the right words.
"I really like you. You're so pretty and talented and nice and I just want to spend the rest of my life with you." Before you can say anything (not that you could, you are too stunned), he presses his lips to yours.

The kiss is light as he can barely reach your lips from between the bars, but to you, it's perfect. His stubble scratches your lips soft lips slightly, but you don't care as you lean towards as much as you can. You pull away and he gives you a bright smile, that you return, blushing, and swipe a tuft of hair behind your ear to hide your confusion.  A faint call sounded from upstairs, and you glanced up and back to Kili.
"I should get going, someone is going to miss me sooner or later." You saw Kili's shoulders slump and you smiled.
"Don't worry, I'll visit you again tomorrow night." With that, you rose and with a final glance, you climbed up the stairs to your bedroom.

There was no tomorrow night. The dwarves had escaped the following day, and you didn't hear about it before Tauriel came storming to you.
"Y/N, Kili's been shot with a Morgul arrow." Your heart sunk, and you whipped around to see her.
"What?"
"The orc told the king and the prince just a few moments ago. He said that he'll be dead soon." You stared at her without blinking and she waved his hand in front of your face.
"Y/N? Aren't you going to follow them?" She asked, and you blinked and moved your eyes to her, pretending to be perplexed.
"Oh cut it, I saw you and Kili kissing in the dungeons yesterday." You blushed crimson red and Tauriel let out a small laugh.
"We need to go after them. I would go alone but I don't have the skills to heal such a wound." She stated, and you stood up and without a word, walked to your room to gather your weapons. (A/N: Okay, I changed things a little bit)

"What is the plan?" Tauriel asked you and you hurriedly explained it to her.
"I'll let Thranduil that I want to hunt the orcs down and that I miss going out on patrols. He'll hopefully let me go and then I'll as if you could join me as I'm not familiar with the terrain here." She nodded.
"I'll get my weapons and we'll meet at the gates as soon as possible." You nodded and went your separate ways, and it didn't take long before you were jogging along the river, towards the end of Thranduil's kingdom and Laketown.

- - - -

Slashing down orcs, you fought your way to Ravenhill as Bilbo had told you that Kili was there. The memories from the past days ran through your mind as you brought down orc after orc, with delicate swings of your swords and daggers and the occasional arrows.

You found the company easily, you just followed the orcs to the house they were surrounding. It didn't take you long to kill the orcs and you rushed to Kili, seeing the awful wound on his leg. The dwarves gave you weirded-out glances, but you ignored it as you conversed quickly with Tauriel and Legolas as they went hunting the last of the orcs. Kili writhed in pain, and all you could do was sing softly in Sindarin, trying to calm him down, trying to stop the poison from progressing anymore, not being able to do much without any herbs. Luckily, a solution revealed itself as one of the dwarves returned with athelas, which you grabbed from his hand and immediately got to work, having learned from your father a great deal about healing.

- -

Kili handed you a dark stone as you were standing on the shores of a lake, your heart heavy as you realized he was leaving.
"Keep it, as a promise."  He spoke softly. You stared at the stone, stunned, and he wrapped his hand around yours, closing your writs around the stone.
"Amrâlimê, Y/N." He spoke softly, and you looked at him, stunned.
"I don't know what that means." You spoke and he smiled, squeezing your hand.
"I think you do." You let out a breath of laughter before answering.
"I hope to see you soon,
Melamin." You smiled at him and his stunned expression. He turned to leave as his kin was calling him with the last smile. You sighed and took one last look at him before hurrying to help the people that were in pain after the attack of Smaug.

- - - -

You dropped your bow as your quiver was now empty and you grabbed your sword out of its sheath. A yelp caught your attention and you ran up the stairs, seeing the hobbit from the company struggling with an orc twice his size. You blunged your sword through it with ease, and Bilbo stared at you in awe.
"Where is Kili? You asked him, and he pointed towards one hillside, and you took off in that direction immediately, fearing for the worst. As you reached the place, you stepped onto a small clearing but it was empty, nothing but dead orcs laid there.
"Kili?" You called out, and for a moment, there was nothing but silence. Then, a pained howl of an orc and Kili's voice reached your ears.
"No, Y/N! Don't come!" You did the complete opposite he asked and charged into the direction of the sound.

What you saw made your heart freeze. Bold was holding Kili down, the sharp end of his mace aiming towards his chest. You jumped down the stairs and ran towards them, only to have Kili cry out again.
"NO, Y/N, getaway!" It wasn't enough to stop you and you slashed down the few unfortunate orcs that got in your way as you charged for Bolg. You jumped onto his neck and blunged your dagger through his neck with all your might. He released Kili, and for a moment everything was alright until he grabbed your leg and hurled you down from his neck. He was still holding the mace, and the sharp part impaled your side as he threw you against a wall. Your head hit it, hard, and you sunk at the bottom as Kili swung his sword to Bolg's back and sent him down the cliff.

Your vision was blurry and it was hard to keep your eyes open but you still saw Kili kneel next to you and felt him pull you to his lap, applying pressure to the wound.
"Y/N, just focus on me. You'll be fine. Just focus on my voice and don't close your eyes." Kili spoke to you, pressing his hands to your wound that was bleeding profusely. The pain was unbearable, and your eyelids heavy but you refused to let them slide closed.
"Kili..." You spoke softly, and he lifted his eyes to look at you. You coughed and blood seeped from your mouth as the wound throbbed.
"Kili, I love you." Your voice was quiet and Kili shook his head.
"You are not saying goodbye to me, you are going to live." He sounded desperate, and you couldn't help but smile at his stubbornness, despite the pain.
"Kili. It's no use, I'm going ..." You spoke softly, hearing a faint sound of music.
"You are not going anywhere, Y/N. I won't let you!" He yelled, and tears landed on your neck.
"I wish I could stay here with you, but it's my time." Another set of tears landed on your neck as he was still staring at the wound with tight eyes as he pressed his hands to it. You let yours slide down slowly, and you grabbed his hands gently and pushed them off the wound. The pain didn't get better, but you wanted him to focus on you, not the wound.
"No, Y/N!" He tried, but you interrupted, speaking as sharply as you could muster over the dulling pain.
"Listen to me, Kili." His eyes snapped at you, and you took a staggering breath as the sound of the music was getting stronger.
"I love you so much. I wish nothing more than I could spend the rest of my life with you-" Your words were cut off as you coughed again, and more blood seeped out of your mouth. Kili wiped it away, with teary eyes and shaky hands.
"I love you too Y/N, please don't leave me." He begged, and you closed your eyes and opened them, trying to see him clearly one last time.

His face was covered in grime and blood, and his eyes were red as tears made their way out of his eyes, but he had never looked more handsome to you. You grabbed his hand and brought it to your chest, squeezing it tightly as your breathing became harder and harder and the pain was becoming unbearable, and you let out a small cry of pain. Kili let out a sob and moved your hair out of your face. He squeezed your hand tightly to let you know you were there. Your eyes slid closed but they shot open as another wave of pain raked your body. You looked at him and whispered.
"Can you hear the music, Kili? It's so beautiful." Your eyes were in tears as Kili lifted you higher in his lap and he pressed his lips to your forehead as he held you close.
"I love you." He whispered, and you managed to give him a smile and a faint.
"I love you too." before you closed your eyes, never to open them again.

Your hold on his hand got weaker and weaker until your hand fell slack.
"Y/N?" Kili asked, squeezing your hand.
"Y/N!" He sobbed, but you laid still.
"Y/N, please." His voice broke as he begged you to answer, and he squeezed you to his chest as he started to realize that you were gone. His grief exploded, it covered him, and refused to let go. He cried out, begging, screaming, yelling for you to come back, but nothing happened. Tears ran down his cheeks freely and they landed on your face, chest, and neck, but you didn't react.

His cries alerted Dwalin, who ran in, ax raised for battle, ready to battle any orc that would be threatening the young prince, but nothing could have prepared him for this. Kili was on his knees, your body still in his hands, and he was crying freely as he clutched your hand. Others started to appear as well, ready for battle but they lowered their weapons as they realized what was going on. Fili, who had managed to struggle off Azog's grip after an arrow had hit the orc's arm, was one of the last ones to show. But the second he noticed his little brother's tears, he fought his way through the crowd and kneeled next to him, gently trying to pry you off his hands. Kili's hold of you got even tighter and he squeezed you tighter to his chest, and he started to rock you in his arms. Balin arrived with Thorin, and Balin chased the others away while Fili and Thorin managed to coax Kili to let go of you.

Epilogue:

The funeral had been beautiful, Lord Elrond had agreed to bury you in Erebor. Kili had sat next to your grave for three days without moving or eating until Dwalin and Thorin had to carry him away and lock him into his bedroom so he would sleep.

It had been a week now and Erebor was starting to reach its former glory. Not that Kili noticed any of it. The jovial dwarf was gone, instead, anyone that tried to talk to him got short answers or empty looks. If they saw him at all. He spent all his time in his bedroom or next to your grave.

Lady Dís had been told to arrive at Erebor today, and Fili and Thorin were receiving her with warm words and hugs, but Dís noticed that his younger son was missing and panicked. After Fili and Thorin, as well as Balin, insured her that he was alive, they hesitated. They did not know how to tell Dís the news of her son falling for an elf.
"Where is he, then? Where is my son?" Dís demanded to know, and Thorin and Balin glanced at each other one last time before he took a deep breath.
"He's in his room, grieving. I fear that he may never return to his old self." Dís frowned.
"Grieving? Grieving for who? Every one of the company is alive, yes?" They nodded, and this time it was Balin who took a deep breath before speaking.
"He fell in love on your journey." Dís' eyes lit up but it died down soon.
"With who?" As no one answered her, she stared tightly at her brother.
"Who, Thorin?" Thorin didn't have the courage to look at her sister, and he feared that if Dís reacted badly, she would not be there for Kili and he may not truly never return to normal.
"An elleth from Rivendell. The daughter of Lord Elrond." Dis stared at him.
"Rivendell- Lord Elrond. An elleth. You are saying that my son fell for an elleth?" She asked, and everyone nodded, Fili was taking steps back so he could sneak down to speak to Kili before their mother could if she reacted badly.
"Where is he?" Dís asked again, and everyone tensed. This time, Fili decided to answer.
"At her grave." His voice was quiet, and Dís lifted her eyes to him.
"I'll take you to him." With that, Fili and Dís walked down the stairs that led into the small garden where you were buried.

Dís walked forward quietly, trying to arrange the mess of emotions inside her. Her son had fallen for an elf. And she was dead now, and he was mourning. Her thoughts cleared when he heard the pained cries of her son. Kili had never been the one to cry, he sobbed, yes, but never cried. Dís added more speed to her steps and her heart broke as he saw Kili. He was hunched over next to a delicate white stone and his tears kept hitting the petals of the plant.

Dis walked to her son and kneeled next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Kili lifted his eyes from the ground to Dís and instantly jumped at her neck, crying into her dress.
"It hurts so much, amad. Take it away." He sobbed, and Dís rubbed his back with soothing circles, just as she had done when he was a child.
"I can't, dearest." She whispered and slid her hand on his hair.
"But it hurts, I can't live with this pain." He cried, and Dís' heart throbbed for her son. She knew all too well what it felt like to lose a loved one.
"You will learn to live with the pain. It will never go away, but you will learn to live with it." Kili sniffed and lifted his face to his mother, who was quite stunned. Kili had lost weight, his eyes were red and puffy and they didn't house the same spark as they used to.
"Oh, my poor poor boy." Dís cooed and wrapped her arms around him, rocking him like he was a child.
"Tell me about her." Dís suggested gently, and a set of tears escaped Kili's eyes as he began to tell the tale to his mother. First, even saying her name hurt, but as he kept going, the pain didn't give up, it gave room for something else. Joy. He told his mother about everything, the good and the bad. How you had met again, how you had saved his life in Laketown and then again at Ravenhill.

Sorry that this took SO long to finish, I just had no idea how to end this. But here it is now! I have never written a sad ending and I don't think I will write another one any time soon as this took a real toll on me.

Also, please send me requests! I'd love to get some, as I'm growing bored with my own ideas and I could really use someone else's input as well.
